OT: Need New Bands and Albums

I need something NEW! new new new. I'll toss these out. Thanks!

The Ting Tings - We Started Nothing - 2008. some catchy tunes, some kinda annoyed me. Heard em on Ethel (XM alt station).

Avenged Sevenfold - City of Evil
    - ok its 2005, but I got it last year and have enjoyed it.

Ozomatli - Don't Mess With the Dragon - 2007. cool multicultural sound. saw them in a kick-a$$ show at Jazzfest this year and have been hooked since.

Check out Calexico too for some chilling music. Lots of Spanish influence, a couple white boys from Tucson...

    Oh where do I begin?

Some of my favorite pick-ups from the past 24 months include:

    Enon - High Society
    Arcade Fire - Neon Bible
Pinback - Summer in Abaddon & Autumn of the Seraphs
    Hilotrons - Happymatic
    Mute Math - Self Titled
Spoon - Ga ga ga ga (anything from this band is awesome)
    The National - Boxer
    Silversun Pickups - Carnavas
    Voxtrot - Self Titled
    Yeasayer - All Hour Cymbals
Bloc Party - Silent Alarm & A Weekend in the City
Ike Reilly - Poison the Hit Parade
    Mobius Band - Heaven
Minus the Bear - Planet of Ice
Pretty Girls Make Graves - Alan Vital
RJD2 - Since We Last Spoke (they also have a new one out that I have not listened to)
    Radiohead - In Rainbows
    Midwest Product - Specifics

Those cover quite a lot of area...from rock to poppy stuff to flat out weird...

As others have mentioned -- TV on the Radio, Calexico, Yo La Tengo...so much good stuff out there outside of the "mainstream".

I've also been going back in time and "rediscovering" some of my older stuf...like Dinosaur Jr, Pavement, Echo and the Bunnymen, etc.

I highly suggest you get a subscription to eMusic. They support the alternative bands and you can get some really good stuff there...you just have to look for it (which is half the fun).

My CD collection is like 300+...not counting the hundreds I have on MP3. Next time you come over I'll let you browse.

    Thx...Doug

If you're into the lighter side of Black Metal, or Black and Roll, as Satyricon has been coined, you can check them out below, with some live clips from Norway's equivalent of PBS with a classical section off to the left. The nearly incomparable Frost is on drums.

    From the new album:

Eagles of Death Metal - It's not Death metal, it's the big guy from the "queens of the stone age" side band.

    Dispatch

If you're grooving on Ben Harper, Calexico and the like give Dispatch a try ( (Bang Bang is a great album). I came across them randomly on Amazon and was hooked by a review that said, "if I could only have one cd to listen to hanging out with the guys and drinking brews this would be the one."
Also a for 16Horsepower (think gothic alt-country) and Southern Culture on the Skids.
    Cheers,
    Matt

I haven't found a whole lot of 'new' music I like (I'm old!) so I stick to classics. I like all kinds of music so my iPod ranges from Delirious (Christian rock) to New Order (all time fav band! and fantastic live) to Van Halen (another incredible live band) to Metallica (very very good live...at least the older stuff). Others big on my playlist are Sevendust, Afghan Wigs (sentimental Cincinnati band), Faith No More, Foo Fighters (probably my fav band right now) and of course Tool.

When riding, running or working out, I prefer high intensity music like the above mentioned. Also big on techno when riding (I know most people despise this type but it really helps when pushing one's self up Wingate or something).
Why would I need more than one gear?
