Oldest Edition of Cosmic Ray Guide?
How 'bout oldest copy of Cosmic Ray?
Oldest I have is 4th Edition, looks like it was printed in 1990.
Anyone got one of the originals? I think they came out in 1988

It would be fin to look at those first few editions. I have a 5th edition here somewhere, still in a box from a move.
I would love to go back to the era of that 5th edition and then stay with riding all those years between then and now instead of having to play catch up at this stage in life. But, here we are.

I had the 5th edition too - I recall giving it to a riding buddy when I bought the "ultra edition"

One of my favorites is still "...may they ride Huffy's in Hell..." or some approximation of that.

I have a copy from year 1 that Cosmic Ray gave to me the day they came off the press. He asked me if I wanted him to autograph it! I declined. It's buried in one of my bike swag boxes out in the shop,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

Not sure what year it is....but it was the "Ultra Edition".

1993 I believe. Look at the copywrite dates on the maps to determine what year the book is. I have the 91', 92, and 93 vesrions. After 93 that I just read through them at the book store to see what was new, made mental notes, and then went exporing on my own with better maps.

The 1993 version still has my first Phoenix ride in it, the Pinnacle Peak Cactus Cup course. Now the area is part of Troon. Too bad, that was a fun little loop with the highlight being "Satan's Slab".

I have either the 2nd or 3rd edition buried somewhere. It is probably next to my A5 fanny pack sewn in custom rasta colors.

A5 Gimpsman Packs were the shite! As was the smaller cousin, The Buddy Bag. I still have one kicking around somewhere in the gear stash. Fun days in the mid to late 80's hanging out in Flagstaff

There are a couple of things in this one marked '92, but most of the maps are '93, so I'm thinking this is the '93 edition.
No way to tell for sure what the order was...

Got a copy of this from Tempe bike in something like '84, '85 (?). Used it to ride Mt. Elden, Usey Pass and more. We also used to ride the Pinnacle Peak area when there were javelina ad deer still running around!. This was before the city bulldozed all the desert up there. We would ride a circumference trail that went approx half way up the peak. There was a great detour off the trail on the back-side that went down the face of a granite slab for approx 60- 80 feet down the hill. You could take a trail from Pima and Dynamite all the way up into the National forest areas.

Ray is the guru of trails I will give him that.
I love that book, whatever edition I have.
Good times, good times.
Can I tell a story real quick?
My bestest MNT biking friend, Rob, died.
He and I love Ray's book.
We had such great times pulling that dirty book out on trails to find our ways...
I miss Rob so much. I think of him all the time when I ride.
He was taken so young and he was just one of those riders, and we all have a friend like him, that could make you laugh no matter what. He was the go to buddy when you wanted a ride and good times.
I miss him so.
Sorry for getting like this.
Ray's book just got me thinking.
Sorry.
