I was staying with family in Tucson this weekend who have a place near Tanque Verde and Bear Canyon Rd. When I'm there I usually ride Catalina Hwy on the roadie or ride Bugs to Milagrosa.
This time I decided to ride Redington Rd to the Chiva Falls Jeep trail (used in the AZT 300 route and SSUSA Tucson race a couple years ago) to get to the Wilderness boundry of the AZT near Italian Springs.
The AZT between Italian Springs and the Milagrosa turn off is really excellent. Lots of flow and descending. This route is definitely a new Tucson favorite for me. the Jeep road is full of tech and climbing, really not boring at all, and the single track after it is top notch. I was in a hurry to catch a crew that I knew would be descending Milli later in the AM so I did not take any photos. That's a shame, because the views kicked ass. Here's some data though.
AZT is where it's at.
