Park in the lot at the dead-end of 40th St., south of Shea. We'll be riding the tech smorgasbord of PMP, some combo of Upper/Lower Cheesegrater and Hairball. 304? 8b? Craziness will ensue.

Sore. Shoulder is maybe 50%, wrist about 25%.

    Hairball is a kick.

The parking lot is at 40th Street South of Shea Blvd. Just drive on 40th from Shea until it runs into the mountains.

Look for sausages and buns. Oh wait, buns won't be there. Just looks for sausages, I guess, and various garnishes and condiments.

So, just went and did some maintenance on the bike. All good, minor stuff, some other minor stuff that can be done or can wait. Took the bike for a little ride around the neighborhood. Trying to pick the front wheel up over a curb is really painful. Climbing ledges might not work so well.

WTF? In a competition with TRB? What's the lowdown on the new ride?

Hairball is a kick, you'll enjoy it.

    Some pre-ride stoke

While not Hairball, this hacked together video from Upper Cheesegrater may provide a bit of stoke.

    from DesertCrawler on Vimeo.

...and maybe Hairball from the last time out.

here (Oops. Looks like Iggy is a fave huh?)

I agree. The problem was you were so far ahead I needed binoculars to see you. I'll try to stay a little closer down Hairball, pain management permitting.

I was thinking of doing such a route myself...but 5AM...dang that's early! Do you have a route planned yet? I might roll from my house and try to meet you all on the trail. Or I could just get my lazy ass out of bed and ride over to the 40th St trailhead.

    Thx...Doug

Feeling better so I think I'll make it. If heading from far SE part of valley should I take 101N or head over to the 51N to Shea?

I think 51 to Shea might be closer to the trailhead at 40th South of Shea.

Ugh. So, on the first drop my hand involuntarily lets go of the bars. This causes a tumble. Guess it wasn't quite ready yet. Rather than continue, decided to turn back. Now even the little embedded rock bumps hurt. Oh well. Temperatures were nice at 5:00am!

I had the camera and my ride ended about 2 minutes after turning it on which was right at the start of the good stuff. On the first real drop (minor ones didn't seem to bother it) my right hand simply let go of the bars. There was no pain, it just wouldn't stay clamped. Anyway, that caused me to get off the bike ungracefully. Even though the fall was not hard at all, I of course landed on the hand that was already injured even though I tucked it in as I fell. There was no continuing after that. I could barely pick up the bike.

So, that is why no video for you, and by the way the wrist feels, no good riding for me for a while, maybe just T100 stuff. Oh well, better than nothing I suppose.

Working the Ironman race. Awesome place. One of the most scenic areas I've seen. I'd love to return to actually enjoy it when I don't have to work.

Yeah if you have an extra 30 min to hour if you have not already the hike around Tubbs hill is nice. Sanders Beach use to a lot of drinking and swimming on that beach. I plan on shipping my bike up there and doing a few rides. Use to ride motorcycles there growing up. Canfield mountain.
