    Mt. Elden Shuttles and Camping

Looking to do some shuttles and camping in early June on Mt Elden.

Is tent/truck bed camping possible off of Elden Lookout Rd?

How about Shultz Pass rd? Is Shultz too far from riding? I dont need to drop in from camp, but dont want to drive farther just to get to shuttle routes

Trying to centralize base camp around where we will be riding. Been up there to shuttle before, but wasnt paying enough attention to see if camping was possible.

Checked Google Maps but couldnt get a good feel of what areas were "campable"

Did some Mingus Shuttle/Camp last year and it worked out great.

    Any info/GPS coords. appreciated

    Thanks!

Camping off schultz is the way to go, only 15 minutes away from shuttles. Have fun and don't start a fire!

    Thanks Ranger!

No fires for us, not worth it.

No problem. There is a fs road that peels off to the left within the first half mile that has plenty off good spots.

Off of Schultz pass road is as good a location as you can get, and thanks for no fires! Just wanted to add for other visitors that might be checking out this thread that fires aren't permitted anywhere in the Elden/Schultz/Dry Lake Hills area year round. That's as of last season anyhow, locals feel free to chime in if that's changed.

I checked for fire restrictoins and didn't find any, state wide. I'd like to know if propane fire pits and camp stoves will be allowed if no camp fires are. CM374, Ranger or anyone else can you help us out with additional info?

Just say NO! to shuttling Elden. It'll be gated for general traffic soon... All the better.

The coconino site still shows the fire restriction order at Elden to still be in effect (from last year). I didn't read the details of the order. I've been up there when no fires are allowed at the bottom but were allowed at the 4 mile mark up Shultz.

Propane stoves (things that are able to be turned on and off) are definitely allowed. As for the fires, keep your eyes pealed on the road on your way up, the signage is good in that area because it is high use. As far as I know they are still banned there.

Currently there is a Forest Order banning all camp fires in the area north of Flagstaff including the Schultz Pass area. The order is in effect until June 3rd, 2013. Propane fire pits are OK, which is what we have been using up there for the past several years and got the OK form several rangers crusing for open fires in the restricted area.

More forest oders HERE including the bicycle restructions in Sedona
