McDowell Sports Loop: GoPro Hero 3 Black Helmet Cam Video

Took this with my helmet mount. Does anybody know how to make Youtube keep their video quality when uploading? This video looks like **** on Youtube, but the file I uploaded has amazing quality. It looks like Youtube turns 1080p into 360p or something.

The GoPro takes awesome videos and pictures, but I can't figure out how to make them maintain quality once it uploads to YouTube. I have a video of a downhill run at Sunrise, but I think I'll wait to post here until I figure out the upload quality issue. I've seen some super clear ones on youtube, so I know it's possible.

Maybe it's the replay quality of YouTube itself. Even if you select to play back in 1080 does it look crappy?

How is the quality when you view it on Ur tv?

It looks better than on my computer when viewing on a 52 inch through the Bluray, but there's still noticeable quality loss. I think I'll upload some short videos with different settings to see what happens. If I figure out the settings I'll post the fungus trail, it's pretty sick.

get hero 3 black. Don't buy extra battery packs from GoPro, get the Wasabi pack with wall & car chargers on Amazon, they actually last longer, plus you get 2 batteries and 2 types of chargers for the price of 1 battery.

I like the view from the chest mount better. The helmet mount is a little floaty. Ymmv of course.

Have fun with the go pro. Lots of options...

McDowell Sports Loop: GoPro Hero 3 Black Helmet Cam Video

I believe that YouTube compresses all video uploads. Hence some loss of quality. I have had some that turn out terrible and others not too bad. I wish I knew the answer.

I have seen videos from other users that look absolutely amazing. I do know that you should keep the highest possible quality prior to upload.

I agree, once it's not 118 out here I'm going to hit up the sports loop with the chest mount and try to go way faster. I have a video of Surprise downhill from the chest cam, but I'm going to mess with the settings to make it clear before I post on the forum. I've tried the handlebar mount right on the wheel hub of my roadbike and it's pretty cool, it looks fast because of the low point of view. On a mountain bike it would just shake too much, so I'll skip that.

I lose a lot of the video quality in windows movie maker. The raw video looks great, and then after my edits its grainy even if I save it at 1080.

Dude movie maker is a horrible program for editing if you want quality. I'm using some of the better software and after edits, it still looks awesome. Then it goes to Youtube.....

I'm using Cyberlink Powerdirector 11 right now, my demo is almost up. I've tried vegas and premiere as well. Premiere was cool, but I like PD 11 better. I still can't figure out how to get quality Youtube uploads, it's driving me nuts! On my computer the edited videos look amazing.... I just don't get it
