no chip, no collar and 10 months old...i just posted a photo on this thread. The owners Dan and Ashley are taking turns overnight in the area, they have set a live trap out there.
in addition to the canal, there are some washes and drainage basins and easements that move from that area southwest to ~92nd/Shea, along Desert Cove St., and also some horse trails running N/S at about 93 st. and Cholla, actually quite a few miles. Lots of coyotes use that area. get in there on your bike! good luck.
I rode through the area this morning and checked both sides of the intersection but saw no sign of her. Latest report is she's been spotted limping near there but hasn't been caught yet.
I'll see if I can get friends at MCACC to keep an eye out on the "buses" when they come in just in case. Good luck hopefully she gets caught, sounds like she's hurt and needs to come home!
Any updates? I was out this morning and cruised through the shopping centers and apt complexes in the area as well as the section of land east of the canal and north from Via Linda to the Taliesin road and then on my return I checked out the park on the NW corner of Via Linda and FLW...No sign of her.
Yeah, I spotted her this morning along the drainage canal with the bike path between Shea and 104th St. The blue arrows show where I saw her go and then vanish without a trace. She looked strong but panicked when she saw me go towards her and ran pretty fast behind some bushes. I hope she doesn't get any closer to Shea where cars are doing 50mph. I'll do another bike ride through there tomorrow morning. The problem is catching her, it won't be easy the way she's running away at first sight. That's why there have been many sightings but no luck in grabbing her.
whats her favorite treats? maybe take a bag of them out on the next search.
the fact that youve narrowed down the area that much is progress.i would imagine she'd follow the canal under shea to get to the lake with unlimited water. i wouldnt expect any lost pet to wander far once discovering that
they are mostly using their FB page. I know the area pretty well, but like Gil said, getting a young dog to come to you... Maybe if she saw her owners, kinda sounds like that is the best bet now since she does not want to goto people.
They need to find a better way to get updates out. I spent an hour searching the washes and neighborhoods they mentioned this morning. Came across a girl that was watching the trap and she said the dog is in the 118th street and south of shea area this morning. I could have ridden out that way instead.
The LetsFindZephyr facebook page is updated daily, this is the latest:
This is an overview look at the path she is taking from Shea and 100th St all the way up it to Cactus and Frank Lloyd Wright. She also takes a second path going south along the canal from Cactus to just past Via Linda. Once you're in the wash, you really just follow it down unless you decide to jump into the neighborhoods but during the day she is less likely to be there just because she is more visible. She seems to find somewhere to hide and then at night goes walkabout til about 9am the next morning. If you want a more detailed map, just go to Google earth and you can blow it up for more definition.
we were out in the wash from 104th street to frank lloyd this evening. just across frank lloyd and behind the houses off laurel is where the trap is set. they have added two more traps in the area as of today. ran into dan, the owner as he was headed out there for the night watch.
I am a long-time dog owner and dog lover. I do not mean to poo poo on this thread and I hope the dog is found safely soon. But please, please, people put a collar on your dog with your information on it. It's only $5 to have one stamped out at Petsmart. In addition to that the microchip is never a bad idea. I have come across several dogs wandering the neighborhood over the past few years. Those without a collar containing ownership information leaves me at a loss as to what to do with them. I want to help them but without contact information what can one do besides call the pound or let them continue to wander in hopes that their home is very nearby and they will soon find it.
It would be interesting to know if this dog is enjoying its freedom. When returned to its owner will it become a great companion or a pain in the ass and take off whenever it gets a chance.
When the owner regains possession of the dog it would be cool to get a monthly update on this thread as to how the dog/owner relationship is working.
Some dogs are born to be renegades, and a pain in the butt.

I met Dan this morning at the trap. He said the last sighting was the one yesterday morning around 118th and south of Shea. There is an equestrian area at the end of 120th that i plan to ride in the morning. If she is heading south she will probably join a Res gang.
I've been avoiding the trail where the traps are set. I was told some people were in the area when the dog was approaching the area and it spooked her.
Maybe call Dan and discuss with him. I think they are putting all hope on trapping and just want sightings reported to see if she is still in the area.
I've been riding the east side of the canal and looking in the area between the canal and Ancala as well as the wash from FLW to Shea as a primary loop each morning.
i did not know you could ride on the east of the canal past Taliesin - I've always crossed it onto the path next to FLW on the west side. How do you get there from the Cactus\110th area?
or do you just enter on the east side of the canal by Via Linda? I think that is a good place to look as well.
