Interesting take on IMBA by the Angry Single Speeder

In light of Bike Doc's post, I thought this was an interesting read:

That's a very unfashionable article, because it seems to be much cooler to bash IMBA.

nice article with some good facts, and good admonishment to get involved. But does not address when the interests of the national org conflict with the interests of the base, in this case, IMBA keeping an ally in the FS vs. the locals getting discriminated against in their home town.

I guess assuming the local grassroots organization and IMBA can't see eye to eye, then it's an individual choice. Just seems IMBA has been slammed pretty hard here. But let's not forget the good things they do for the sport.

yeah, I'm not getting all the hate for an organization whose purpose is to promote the sport we all love. I remember the days when mountain bikers had no visibility or political power. it is quite different today.

any big organization is going to be less than perfect, but I think they are generally heading in the right direction.

as for the assertion that IMBA built trails are lame, I suppose that depends on your definition of lame. I've ridden a number of very fun IMBA built trails. Wolverton, in Prescott, is a local example. They replaced a boring dirt road with a trail that is nice to climb, and lots of fum to descend - what is lame about that?

Apparently, according to ASS, I am not a real mountain biker. While I agree IMBA has made some progress at the national level, I personally will not be renewing my membership.

I joined few months ago, IMBA is just like any political machine - far from perfect... but it's true, need someone to resist Sierra Club and others powers at be - otherwise we can all take up road biking

it's the piss and vinegar coursing through my veins that makes me angry....well, that and the beer.
Your limits are both physical and mental. Suffering will help you find and overcome both.

It is obvious that SS anger is self-directed. They are the Opus Dei of biking.
