How's the rain been on Elden?

Just looking for an update to see if the trail system has been getting any of that record rainfall around Flag...

    Thanks!

Rode around Humphreys on Saturday (Schultz, Waterline, IB, Lockett Meadow, FR418, AZT) and we got hailed on, rained on and uttterly drenched...

My impression from riding today was that more rain has fallen in town. No rain today and Elden/Dry Lake Hills didn't appear to get much of what fell yesterday.

Conditions are still primo but not tacky hero dirt. Of course that could change tomorrow.

The perfect rain is falling late this afternoon. Nice, steady drizzle to keep the soil on the trails. The good news is Columbine is blooming and the rain has encouraged the Cutleaf Coneflowers in the upper part of the Shultz Creek drainage to show their color.

The bad news was a hiker's unleashed dog. WTF? Personally, I don't have an issue with running into unleashed dogs on trails but if this dog had bitten my kid instead of me I would have had a serious meltdown. As it is, said dog is in 10 day quarantine at the animal shelter until I get verification that it's had a rabies vaccination. Sorry, just had to rant on what had been a gorgeous morning in the woods and then at the end of the ride on Fort Valley Trail I get chomped on.

I like dogs, but I would have beat the eff out of the owner. I could give two deuces about unleashed dogs. But if they can't play nice they need to be on a leash or in an incinerator. No excuse for that kind of thing. Sucks for you man.

You should have Harold Fish'd that dog and and his "owner" too if he got indignant about it.

I love dogs, but aggressive ones that bite without provocation have no purpose in decent society.

as much as i am generally against ambulance chaser attorneys (spamming my email daily about defective prolapsed vaginal mesh),,
you have a slam dunk win against the owner of that dog. make an example of him.

I did threaten to beat the crap out of the owner before cooling down and getting out my first aid kit. You also never know if someone has a gun in their backpack. Anyway, it turns out the dog has a "history" in Maricopa County where they take these things even more seriously than Coconino Co. This is going to turn out poorly for both the dog and the owner.

Typically, the type of person who owns an aggressive, biting dog, is not the type of person who has assets or insurance or can go after with the courts. You might get the judgement, but if the guy is a POS with no assets, what blood are you gonna squeeze from that turnip?

Perhaps, but in this case the guy is apparently a lawyer and his brand new BMW was parked at the trailhead. If he hadn't lied to me when I asked him if his dog had ever bitten someone before I would have been happy to have him cover the co-pay on my insurance and leave it at that.

Well, in the given context, the "lesson" would've been doled out by an attorney. This would unlikely be death so not exactly the lesson I was talking about.

Rode the trails all weekend - they are perfect. It sprinkled today - they'll be even better.

    It's really hit or miss.

Some trails have been getting rain and are in great shape. Others seem to be missing again and again. Rode AZT from lower Snowbowl Road to Aspen Corner today and was surprised how dry the trail most of the trail was. At least on the way up -- it rained on us while descending.

Some of the ruts in the trail were filled with deep moon dust.

I rode from FR418 yesterday back to town and noticed the same thing. It seems like most of the rain so far this monsoon thunderstorm season has been along the Rim or further south.

What do you think about this weird retrograding low that has made it's way west from Ohio of all places?
