    Idea! The HAB thread

Love it or hate it, hike-a-bike (HAB) is a part of mountain biking in AZ for sure. I don't mind it as it usually gives my riding muscles a chance to rest a bit.

There are two slogans we throw around from time to time: If you're not HAB'ing, the views probably suck & If you're not HAB'ing, you're just riding your bike!!

With all that non-sense I had put together an entire photo album of nothing but HAB pics, it's kinda hilarious actually. So, with that in mind, post up your best or worst HAB pic.

Here are a bunch of my favorites:

HAB train during the Lemmon Drop.
    From Lemmon Drop 2011

Dag Nabbit topping out on the AZT Blue Ridge HAB.
From AZT #28 - Blue Ridge Passage

The Bevinator & CoyoteKis HAB'ing in Martinez Canyon.
From AZSF - Picketpost to Kelvin

Me, slogging through wet sand at BCT.
    From AZSF - BCT rain/mud

    Dag Nabbit enjoying the Tortolitas.
From AES - Tor De 50

A special thanks to Mtn-rider for capturing my total self-destruction cresting the White Horse Hills.
    From AZT SF Peaks

Dag Nabbit nearing the top of Tom's Thumb from the north.
    From AES - McDowell 46

Chris and I shared a mutual feeling during last year's AZT300 north of Kentucky Camp.
    From AZT 300

Mingus Mtn wasn't THAT bad, was it??
    From AES - Coco250

and finally, from this year's AZT300, Scott Jones pushing up Molino, yikes!
    From AZT300: Redemption!! 2013

You know it's steep when your hands are on your bars pushing and your feet are behind your rear wheel...yikes.
Version 2 of the GPX library (due out soon) has a section called the "Best of Gill Couto". Guaranteed to have you off your bike pushing.

I like to say "HAB is good" since adding a little hiking takes you places you wouldn't otherwise get to. You're always rewarded with either a great downhill or even more HAB on the way down.

Exiting the big wash at BCT somewhere along LPL.

Windgate beats up a lot of aspiring HABaneros.

    Post-HAB recovery.

Never getting talked into HAB again.

Did we just HAB that? The OP, me, and Dag Nabbit behind the camera.

    Some wet HAB at BCT.

No way to ride this rocky mess, west end of National.

Some steep HAB at the BCT Jamboree.

Some big-boulder HAB on the BCT.

The first time my lil carbon caballo truly hated me. Ornery lil thing.

I knew Mtn-rider would get in on this!! Nice shots. I just wanted to sleep the day away after that White Horse Hills HAB, but we still had 25 miles of sweet AZT to ride!!

Ah yes, FOTP. I think the first time I did it, I ended up HAB'ing most of National. Bike on the shoulder cyclocross-style run! I don't think I have any pictures though...

Hands down, the most HAB I've ever done in my life in a one week time period occurred last summer on the Colorado Trail Race. One particularly memorable HAB was Fooses Creek; one of the steepest singletrack HAB pushes I have ever done to date.

Another memorable HAB was from the Stagecoach 400 ITT a buddy and I did over Xmas of 2012. There's a vicious little spot in the Anza-Borrego Desert called the Pinyon Drop Off (aka Heart Attack Hill) that really puts the hurt on a man.

Mingus mountain. Part of the sufferfest of the Coconino 250. (The big boys love these gnarly rocks as their DH runs on their big bikes.) Totally worth it once ya get to the top. Just part of the "ride"! :-)
