Who's in? I got my fat a$$ registered for 1 lap on the SS. I'm looking forward to some spaghetti tonight. It's gorgeous in Pine today. I pre-rode Hardscrabble just to keep the muscles warm. I still can't climb that beast with one gear, but I'm getting closer each time. The crews are working hard getting everything set up. Are you coming up? You should!
Awesome race! I had a great time! ^^^ totally agree with above statement. The locals really did go out of there way to make this race great for everyone. I am gonna do it again next year definitely! I raced the 15 on a SS and I will do the 30 next year again on a SS. The course had something for everyone: climbers, down hillers and cross guys too.
Great event!!!! I did 15 SS too and that was a tough course. Of course I prepped with very little riding and lots of beer he night before. Had a blast!
cstem ... word is out you did a A-one job taking over the mic at the awards ceremony... thanks ... thanks to all who raced and suffered on a great race course. Volunteers were awesome ... Pasta dinner on Friday ... cheap and quality stuff .. good free music and great beer from "That Brewery". If you haven't done this race you really need to check it out next year... perfect temps during the race 60-70 and the course rewarded fitness and tech skills ... not a barnburner dumbed down event (called a mountain bike race). And reasonably priced with ALL the $$$ going to trails ..... can epic rides say that ... for their $110 entrance fee???? If you are choosing between the Tour of the White Mts. and Pine ... please consider Fire On The Rim ..you'll be happy you did.
Thanks 90! I had a great time like I said and you are right about the course-it is a true mountain biker course from the old school. It is hard, gnarly, and even with the jeep trail sections-there was enough challenge. I will be back!
I was running 32x21 and it seemed to work fine. I think 32x22 would make the climbs a little easier and not compromise the DH too much. I was talking to one of my friends who won the Mens Open last year. He said the key to winning the FOTR is to be the first guy up Hardscrabble road. He said if you can get up to the top first, you can break away from the pack and they won't be able to catch you. I have yet to get to the top without pushing my bike, so I don't see myself winning anytime soon. Plus I have like 50 lbs on most of you guys out there.
As others have said, the event is wonderful. I got a babysitter and took my wife to Friday's dinner. We had a nice chat with some old ladies that live in Strawberry. It was their 2nd year volunteering. They liked seeing all the young men in spandex.
Although I will probably never enter another race, I will enter the FOTR every year. It is a fun event and raises money for a good cause. The locals in Pine are aggressively building trails in the area and Pine is soon to become a summer riding destination for valley riders. I can't wait.
