    Elden Lookout Road Closure

Just a heads up to anyone headed up Elden Lookout Rd. this week. Due to a rockslide just downhill from the Wasabi Gap that deposited suburban size rocks on the roadway, ELR will be closed past the climbing area until further notice. While a work crew was attempting to remove a large rock an even bigger one fell severely injuring one member of the crew. Due to the saturation of the soil the area has been deemed unstable.

Thanks man. I'm going to have to go take a hike now and check that out!

That area has been sketch all season, lots of giant hang fire right over the road.

Impressive. I suspect they'll get it cleared soon to access the radio towers but I hate those words, "severely injured". Hope he/she's ok.

Those rocks could do some seriously severe damage to someone. Yikes.

I'm sad to say you won't be riding Elden between the 25th and 29th. But you will get to check out fall line erosion hiking Eminence Break.

I'll already be there but will make sure there's a ride. Hopefully m77ranger will break you in gently.

Back on topic, do you suppose they can service the radio towers on Elden via helicopter? It would seem getting heavy equipment up that road might be a bit problematic if it's really that unstable.

I think the rain is going to stop tomorrow and I think things will stable up in just a few days? Maybe so?

On the injured, it doesn't sound very good.

Check out the towstrap on the big one & the tire marks where they pulled it - guy must have been trapped between the two.
Best wishes to the poor cat.

rode by those rocks yesterday having no idea what had gone down a few hours earlier. really hope that guy is going to make it... those things are huge.

the whole ride was pretty spooky... i took out the headphones on the climb just past the bottom of lower so i could hear everything possible. the gate was closed but no info as to why... rockslide seemed likely. from just below those rocks to the top that entire drainage and elden proper were in and out of the clouds. it was especially eerie on the catwalk with the clouds... catwalk>wasabi were incredible.

It doesn't sound good. Positive thoughts sent your and your family's way. 27 is way too young to have to go through this. Shoot, at no age should any one go through this. I hope he makes it.

He was with a work crew headed to the towers for maintenance. 3 others were with him. The crew was trying to move a rock that already fell when the big one in the pic came down.
