Yes and yes. We need some real and legit courses though. If a new legit trail can be created I'm all for a Private Reserve challenge.

X2...most enduro's are still too DH oriented imo. Yeah you have to climb to your downhill timed section, but there's no rush.

How about a proper XC/enduro race that includes some of the DH trails on Elden? I can think of a good 25-30 mile loop with about 5500' feet of gain that has everything. You could still do stages or first one to the finish.

Enduro format would be awesome. So would a super-D. How about Mt Elden in the summer and SoMo in the winter? I think an Enduro or Super D might have more cross appeal then a pure downhill for those of us that don't have a full on DH bike.

I checked out some enduro competition vids and they look like a hoot (okay just about all mountain bike clips look awesome). Anyway, seems like a cool mix of peddle and descent. Kinda like what a lot of folks may already do now -- just without the competitive part. There are the strava folks but this is different.

Yep. It's cool to hit other races out of state, but too costly to do it more than a few times a year. An Enduro in prescott of Flag or anywhere in the summer with trees in this state would be awesome. As would a DH race. motomutts-thanks for taking an interest in getting something going.

I think an Enduro would be fun. I like the climb as much as the downhill, especially the technical climb. Test sections with transfers would be fun.

    Good luck to you Kyle.

The guys that started this thread runs AZ Off-road Productions. They put on mainly high speed dez and track events for motos, quads, and UTVs. I think he was fishing around for a business opportunity. I don't think he will do an MTB event.

There are no official enduros on AZ yet. There is beerduro and some other small grassroots events I have heard of. Below are the closest enduros coming up.

Benduro - Late march by Vegas

Big Mountain Enduro | North America's premier Enduro series Big Mountain - Santa Fe in May, and CO later

SOCAL ENDURO SERIES - Home - Socal series with stuff at Summit and Temecula

endurocupmtb.com Scott Enduro Cup at Moab, tentative date

I was supposed to be in Havasu for the MBAA series.
I would be all for it, but unfortunately it would have to be on a weekend I don't have something going on with my kids. I was hoping to find something closer to the Phoenix Valley so I don't have to rent a room and miss my kids activities.

maybe next year we do a race the day after the MBAA races at say 3 of them and do a "undergournd Enduro" series.... Low Key volunteers if we can find them.... If not use a timing tool like strava to keep track of times on certain trails? IDK? Better Ideas welcome.

Mount Elden won't happen for DH until there is a legit trail up there. The process has been painfully slow. I had taken a lift ride with the Coco FS biologist last winter and she told me that the Reserves have the green light, now we are waiting on the rest of the NEPA required studies to be finished.

I have heard a rumor that the Snowbowl is working on figuring out what they want to include in their EIS for summer activities and lift served biking is definitely part of that. This might not be too far out, keep your fingers crossed. It's kind of ridiculous that we haven't had shovels on the ground yet, it's only been in discussion for 6 or 7 years now. Ugh.

We have been doing them with Beerduro for over 2 years. We have had over a dozen events so far in: Prescott, Sedona, Hawes, Gold Canyon, San Tan in East Valley, PMP, Sonora, and Estrella. We get from 20-50 people. Some drink beer, many do not. The day events (20+ miles) have been much more serious than the night events (8ish miles). No real rules, basically whatever the host wants to do. The scoring and procedures are in place to make them fairly easy to repeat. No leadership and not a lot of work. Check it out on Facebook: Arizona Beerduro

You are welcome to try to create your own vision though. I would love more enduro options. Would be happy to share what we have learned so far.

I might have a chance at a timing system. It's a long shot at best... BUT... I approached a professional sanctioning body about doing Enduros in AZ (possibly else where) and their concern was manpower (cost), insurance, and land rental. If we can get volunteers like your beerduro and secure some land (free or minimal cost), we may be able to get one going with a timing system and make it a fun series....Now, this is just in my head but I wanted to see what kind of interests and support we may be able to get??..

To do them right, they can be fairly labor intensive. You do not need a timing system though. The local moto series uses fender cards which are carbon copy with places to write down entrance and exit. There is a second back up log created at each check too incase there are errors. There are always some errors.

I was looking into this a bit and thought about trying it out. https://www.webscorer.com/ STP and some other local events use it and are happy.

I have no appetite to put in the work to go legit on an enduro series. Land Managers, insurance, break even, more volunteers that do not get to race it, ... If a group or person wanted to do it though, I would help where I could.

Interestingly enough, the promoter that started this thread is trying to pull off a mtb race in Prescott soon. I think it will be an XC format. He might be a good guy to talk to about this.
