    Smile Deems Hill kicks arse!

I rode Deems this morning for the first time in about 3 years.
Holy chit it is way better than I remember; lots chunkier and every bit was smile inducing.
I remember lots of small imbedded rocks plenty of switchbacks, and non tech climbs/descents. The switchbacks were all still there(duh), but some of them were just large exposed boulder that required some skill to maneuver, and some of the trail has eroded away making the climbing kinda techy in spots.
Thankfully I went clockwise from West parking lot, because the last descent was full of babyheads and awesome, but would have been a royal pain to try to climb going CCW.

    Can't wait to go back...
I think I'm not as good as I thought.

It's always slightly different after Monsoon season.

Yep, nice riding at Deem Hills is pretty nice. Good chunk and steep climbs. The only downside is that there is not that many miles. So you just have to loop around.

the biggest downside to Deems are the crowds,

Yeah, due to time restrictions I only put in 10 miles, and had to climb the north bowl 2x to hit the trails I wanted to.

I can't imagine how bad it is on the weekend; at 5am there was a hiking couple in the parking lot with me, and I passed no fewer than 10 hikers before I got off the trail at 7, including a woman dressed in jeans with her very young daughter.
I think I'm not as good as I thought.

I ride Deems a lot. I've never had a problem with crowded trails. It's not Thunderbird or T-100.

Same here, I actually head there to get away from the crowds at T-Bird. I rarely encounter hikers on that trail and when I do, they tend to be more biker friendly.

I have ridden Deem in the weekend morning at dawn. It can get somewhat busy, but is pretty manageable. Of course that was in the summer. Not sure what will happen in the cooler winter months.
