    Bike Theft Alert!!!

My 2008 Demo 8 II was stolen from my garage between 3pm and 5pm today. The frame is black with gold pin stripes. This is a one of a kind bike. Here are the details:

    Specialized Demo 8 II - 2008 model
    black frame with gold pinstripes
    Fox 40 - white lowers
DXH 5 shock with Ti spring
gold stem and gold seap post clamp, Thompson post
Gold Hadley hubs laced to 823's
front tire - Maxxis Minon DHF 2.5 two ply
rear tire - Specialized Chunder Pro 2.3 two ply
    tubeless on both rims
Code brakes with gold danger boy levers

I've ridden with a bunch of you that post up here and a lot of you have seen this bike. I really want to get it back. Let me know if you see or hear anything. I suspect the perps will try to part it out. If it's priced too good to be true, it usually is.

I saw the posts here a few months back about people breaking the vanity windows in garage doors and then pulling the rope mechanical release on the automatic door opener to open the garage door. I immediately ran into the garage and cut the cord. Well, they still got in. After they broke the window, it appears that they used the looped end of a crowbar to catch the metal release, opened the door, and took the bike. There is a chance they will get caught. They left the crowbar behind (with prints) and I have a video surveilance system.

If you hear of anyone selling downhill bike parts at low prices or selling a black demo frame let them know that they should return the bike. I want the bike back and I would be willing to not press charges if I get it back. If the police get them first, I'll be damn sure to prosecute to the full extent of the law. Tick tock tick tock

A big thanks to everyone on this site for watching each others back.

    Rich

Rich, sorry to hear bro. Hope you get her back. Did they take anything else or were they just targeting the Demo?

Jason, they had their pick of bikes but only took the Demo. Definitely had a penchant for downhill. You wouldn't take that bike over the others unless you knew exactly what you wanted it for. You know how you're supposed to feel better about stuff after you sleep on it? I'm just more pissed.

Dude...that's super sucky!!! I'm still uber paranoid that someone will try to take mine again. I got super super lucky to get mine back. Not a normal occurance, but make sure you contact all the police, pawn shops, bike shops, powder coaters, etc to keep a look out. I'm worried with all the attention the bike theif ring has gotten that there are gonna be a bunch of copy cats out there. Lock em up boys and girls! Make it hard for them to snatch em...this bums me out. Good luck Rich!!!

Sucks people have to steal. Hope they get nailed to the wall.

How 'bout the major cross streets of the area where you live so folks in
the same neighborhood can keep a close eye out for the guy coming to
    collect more bikes?

Hey Clock, the cops said to let the dog in the garage. The next time I lose a bike, I want a bloody arm for my dog to chew on in return!

My bikes are secured inside my house with my dogs. Don't trust garages and hate when my stans used to dry out real quick in the summer from heat in the garage or shed.

    Bait bike

I am totally serious. There's that show bait car. How about bait bike. We leave an expensive bike in a open garage with a gps chip in the frame and cop nearby. My bikes are worth more than my car. Second, why are they also targeting the Demo? This is the 5th person this year to loose this bike. Look for Bait Bike on Tru TV

Thanks for all the support guys and thanks for keeping your eyes open! Here are a few pics of the bike. The only difference from the photos was I that had gold Azonic 420 pedals, a gold stem, and a tan stock Demo 8 seat

Hey Rich you can also use allofcraigslist.com to search for parts across all the states. Also google will allow you to narrow searches down to the last 24hrs with your key words.

    Found Lots Of Bikes

Last week my riding buddy got his bike stolen. It promptly appeared on craigslist for sale the next day. We then went and bought the bike off the crook. The police didn't think we had enough evidence for them to go with us and face the perp...we are still pursuing this..We dared not confront the guy since his goons were very prepared to deal with that situation.

Anyway, this guy had at least 100 bikes, some of which were very high end and I am sure are very much missed by their original owners.

If anyone is missing a bike, they may want to check into this. Ideally, enough evidence could be gathered to bust this criminal.

    PM me for details
    Check my pulse...

PM sent. Thanks for posting up the information. The Mesa PD is making progress on my case and they have a suspect. Guess what? The suspect has been arrested multiple times before for bike theft. Go figure. Everyone on this site should consider two things:

1 - the thieves are online

    2 - don't think your bike can't be next

If this community sticks together the thieves will fall pretty fast. A few friends here provided info that ultimately led to the suspects. I sincerely appreciate it. I won't ever get my bike back, but you can bet the a$$holes that ripped me off and scared my family will be off the street soon if the honest people on this site report things that don't seem right. Lastly, most bike thefts result in high quality parts for sale at low prices. If you see an ad on CL or Ebay and the price seems really good, it's probably hot. If you buy those parts, even if you don't know that the parts are hot, you're contributing the the theft problem. Your bike could be gone next. In effect, we're creating a market for ripped off bikes. People paid about 25 cents on the dollar for the high end parts off my bike. Now they're just handing the parts over to the police. There are no silly bargains to be had out there. Please report these fire sales to the police.

A big thanks to the MTBR community for helping me out. I hope a few scum bags will be off the street soon.

    Rich
