    Best GPS for AES Rides?

What's the best GPS for endurance trail riding and racing? I have a Garmin 500 and a 305 for running so would like to use a Garmin product.

Also, any best places locally around FH or Scottsdale to pick one up before BCT50 this weekend?

I'll be the newb cutting the plastic packaging off at the start line, trying to download a GPX file ....'gotta be cheaper than a helo rescue, tho, .... Is what I think.

try to borrow, since you really dont know what you want and sound like the gpx\underground thing is new to you. Anything that will support and upload (i think the 500??) will do you right for navigating this, as the trail is not too hard on this route. Good luck and have fun.

iPhone won't give you service in most of the locations you're going to find riding AES type rides.....500 is great if you only intend to ride the route. You will be SOL if your plan changes and you have to bail without detailed knowledge of the terrain and transportation network or you still cary a USGS topo with you and the ability to use it.

I'd suggest a unit with mapping capability with the ability to display USGS quads which are free on the interwebthingy.

But given your last minute approach here.....take Cholla's suggestion and borrow one until you figure out what is right for you.

If you come to one of the AES races in the future, sometimes I can bring one for you to borrow. Just send me a PM/email.
