    AZ SpringFling 2014?

Been a very long time since I've been in these parts; and I'm planning my trips and rides for 2014. Is there going to be a AZSF 2014?

Its more of an organic thing in my experience, that just comes together early spring. I'm not sure there are set dates but I'm pretty sure it will happen to some capacity.

Someone needs to step and do the organization.

Chad (AZEpicriderandrunner) has been organizing it the last few years.
Getting a dropper post is like getting a bidet. I didn't know I needed one until I get one and boy, does my ass thank me.

Chad backed out of that a few years ago. And it's pretty much flopped and floundered since. I tried to pull it together a couple of years ago and it just didn't get the enthusiasm of its former years. Chad really put himself into it when he was leading. It takes a lot of time and effort. Much of that is in pimping the event to sponsers who will provide swag, food, and beer. Much of that effort was also in getting the t-shirts created, ordered, printed, and delivered.

I think the economic downturn really clobbered the Fling. Fewer sponsers have disposable swag and fewer riders can make the treks.

I'll still be participating in some way. I'll lead rides. I'll join rides.

I sure hope someone can prove me wrong, but I'm pretty sure we'll never again see a Spring Fling like '07, where huge numbers of riders descended upon Tucson, SoMo, and Sedona. It was awesome.

Nah... I think Facebook clobbered socializing on MTBR which in turn has clobbered the Fling.

A lot of the socializing and organizing used to happen on the Passion board which made the fling a gathering of folks from all over the states and other countries. It was a destination for a lot of snow trapped riders and a real happening on the MTB calender. In recent years it seems to be more of a local gathering due to the advent of MTBR's regional boards and the lack of broad exposure.

One of the reasons I moved here 9 years ago was friends that came here for the fling and raved about the trails.

Agreed. T-shirts are nothing, riding the trails with fellow enthusiasts is what made it fun. As a formal local, all I cared about was putting my tires on some dirt, anything more than that was just icing on the cake.

    AZ SpringFling 2014?

Facebook also allowed for making rides around here much more exclusive among certain member groups, a feature that MTBR lacks.

Start a face book page and have some group ride times for March. Doesn't sound hard just requires commitment. I'll be there March, as always. White pasty cyclist from frozen Ohio.
