Not to sound naive, but do you need to have four wheel drive to get back there? I've heard some people say no, but others say that you have to go through box canyon...love some helpful advice. Thanks.

A 4x4, AWD or high clearance vehicle is advisable. There is a long drive down a sandy wash that a few people have gotten stuck in before. It pretty much depends on your confort level and whatever condition the wash is in.

I got stuck with my Frontier ( high clearance 2wd) and SunDog had to help me out. Just make sure you have a 4wd in the caravan in case you need to be pulled out.

Area 52 is isolated and has miles of pristine, primitive slickrock to freeride. Its worth the trip. Someone described it as Moab after a nuclear blast. Bring plenty of water, armor, and travel...you'll need it for the 6 ft drops. Louis knows the area and takes you on good 4hr loop.

I don't have a spare bike I can afford to, um, just go and lose off the back of my vehicle.

(I also got stuck out there in my Frontier! I regret buying a 2WD truck every time that happens.)

    Looks like Sunday the 9th.

The OP peeps seem to be favoring that day.

We'll meet at the Golder Bashas at 7 AM and prolly hit the Florence Kelvin Highway at 8 AM. Prolly riding 3-5 hours.

If there is interest in Saturday I am up to riding both days out there.

next time…I have the 'art thing' this weekend.

EDIT: I was out at 'the cave' today and major rocks have shifted. It is looking quite tenuous.

I'm in for tomorrow. See you at Basha's @7a.

Got room for me in the suburban? Should I bring extra bungees?
