4X racing at Estrella Mtn BMX
My son races BMX and I just noticed that Estrella Mtn is now running 4X racing for mountain bikes. They need riders to make it work so I'm just spreading the word to anyone that may be interested in some BMX style racing on mtn bikes. Put all your pump track practice to work on an actual track. You do have to be an ABA member but it's cheap.

I heard they might start doin that. Glad to hear they went through with it. I'd be there in a sec if i was allowed to ride.:madman: I'll spread the word though.

For the lazy people out there like me, I can't believe you made me google this!
    http://www.estrellamountainbmx.com/index.html

ABA 1 yr membership is $45 and looks like BMX races are $5 or $3 / race unless I read the schedule wrong. Does look like fun especialy once they get the monster cross course built.

Do they race the 4x on the BMX track? If so- what kind of setup would be best for this kind of racing. HT, SS, Rigid? looks very interesting and I might just have to shift the build of my pump bike a little.

How many riders are they getting? I turned up to race for the first 2 nights they were scheduled to hold 4X races and was the only rider.

All this Pump track stuff has been bringing me back to my roots, now a 4x track....man, might be time to start racin' again I think. Do they still have an old fart class? Or how about, I'm old, but not that old class?

Racing is ten bucks, six to practice. Starting to see a few mtb's at Black Mountain BMX. 4x sounds cool, haven't seen them run yet but would like to check it out, my son mostly races Black Mnt. locally. Estrella is also building a wicked Supercross track with a huge starting hill, similar to the 3-story start hill at the Supercross track at the Olympic Training Center in Chula Vista. Crazy stuff.

I'm not sure what kind of turn out their getting. I found out through another dad at Black Mtn last week so I haven't seen it in person yet. I checked their website after he told me just to confirm it and it's on the home page.

As far as bike type, I think anything that would work well on a pump track would do well if they're running on the bmx track. I've seen some dirt jump bikes do pretty well on the track so that would probably be my pick.

You can go to practice night one time without being a member. Just pay the six dollars and you're good to go. Most tracks will also give you your first race for free after joining the ABA also, but I'm not certain about Estrella.

a typical night at the BMX track for a FS 29er
Been to Black Mtn a number of times with my sons. Here's how it usually plays out:

    1. third to last place out of the chutes
    2. tied for second to last, meanwhile watching 9 year-olds skying in front of me. the 12-15 year olds can't even be seen anymore.
    3. still tied for second to last on the first double (table)
    4. losing ground and alone in second to last place by the time the first double (table) is landed. now only ahead of a 5 or 6 year-old.
5abc. well alone in last place for the final
    ;)

Enjoy the laughs! Let's get more mtn bikes out there!
