I know it's early (sort of), but I need to do some recon through the Funeral Mountains for route options and water and firewood cache locations for the 2014 Death Valley 240. The route is close to being dialed in, but there is one bushwhack segment and a network of abandoned exploration drilling roads and goat trails through the south end of the Funeral Range that I'm fairly certain will link through, but I'll need the ground-truth before the ride. I'll have a full Tacoma, but if you have a vehicle (high-clearance recommended), a bike, a pair of hiking boots, a sense of humor, a snobbish taste for craft beer and whiskey, and the willingness to hear me drone on about the mind-bending plate tectonics that are currently shredding this portion of the western margin of the North American Plate (and maybe even some Edward Abbey thrown in for good measure), then by all means join us! This is a dog-friendly venture, so your furbabies are welcome as well. Tentative span of dates fall over Thanksgiving weekend AND a three or four-day weekend between December 20, 2013 and January 06, 2014. The DV240 will be a 3 or 4 day adventure, more details to come on this. There will be three bailouts for shorter rides, but the 240 will go through some pretty amazing country. And you'll have a geologist along for the ride who mapped his heart out in the region for his MS Geology...might as well put it to use, and I would bet that more than a few of yoiu have some experience with the austere beauty of the place, would love to hear your input as well! I sure hope you can join us! Let me know if there is any interest. This will be cross-posted on MTB Bike Trips (Facebook) and on MTBR.
