Here's a pretty tough loop that'll put a dent in your soul. There's a lot of high-altitude (10K to +12K) elevation gain on some steep slopes. Pay to play. There are fantastic views that few get to share. There are miles of stunning downhill.
Roll up Cement Creek Road to Crystal Peak Trail. Climb Crystal Peak to 400. Take 400 to Doubletop. Turn left on Hunter 's Creek Trail for an awesome descent back to Cement Creek trail. Take Cement Creek trail back to Cement Creek Rd.
If you have true AM blood running, this loop easily trumps the Reno-Flag-Bear-Deadman's loop.
Nice vid! Doubletop is burly by any standard. I've accessed the ridgeline from the other side on Block and Tackle which is even more burly but in the wrong way. Looks like your loop makes for more fun.
Stunning views and it looks like plenty of sweet DH! We've done the Reno/Flag/Bear loop before so your route looks interesting. Do you have a GPS track of this ride?
Did you park at the Deadman's TH? Then, if one was so inclined, you could ride more of Doubletop and descend Waterfall trail. Your vid sure makes Hunter's Creek look pretty sweet.
IMO, the Reno-Flag-Bear-Deadman’s loop is a bit over-rated but some day I'd like to Rosebud it over to Doctor's Park instead of climbing back up to drop endless switchbacks.
We actually parked at Walrod. So, I think we rode about 4 miles up Cement Creek Rd before we got to the Deadman's TH.
In retrospect, we should have parked at Deadman's.
Aside from several tenative conversations with locals working at a couple of in-town bike shops, we had no idea what we were in for. You know, we said we wanted to do a big loop with Double Top and they looked at us and took a step back like we just stirred up some deep, emotional trauma.
