View Full Version : Need cranks for 1x1girls Niner...poll inside... Padre 04-26-2005, 03:14 PM check it... Cloxxki 04-26-2005, 03:28 PM Why not just new LX, is isn't enough of a difference? I don't think I could tell the weights apart, holding them in my hands. Over here, the deal on '03 XT's plus BB is hard to pass by. ncj01 04-26-2005, 03:38 PM check it... you need these, on a set of old XTR Mega 9 M952's. Strange, I know someone with a set... hum... <img border=1 img src="http://img.villagephotos.com/p/2004-10/867718/177110100-DSC_0004.JPG"> Padre 04-26-2005, 03:43 PM Why not just new LX, is isn't enough of a difference? . Because they aren't black, that's a priority..at least for now... jl 04-26-2005, 03:45 PM Padre, I picked up some '03 XT cranks and BB for ~$120.00. Not a bad deal. If you want a real good for single speed cranks, pick up a set of Sugino XDs and some square tapers and ride like hell. That set up will be lighter than any other you find... PinsNeedles 04-26-2005, 04:08 PM These are pretty nice lookin' black cranks, 32tooth ring, outboard bearings... Take the rock ring off and save some weight... I just saw a set at WebCyclery and they are sweet. Captain Kana 04-26-2005, 04:39 PM Race Face. Only because its what I use. Not that it matters. Dan C. ;) ~martini~ 04-26-2005, 05:49 PM Go sexy, durable and square I say. White Industries all the way. That way you know you'll never(if you run an XT bb) have bearing issues. The less trouble she has, the more she rides. Padre 04-26-2005, 06:30 PM Go sexy, durable and square I say. White Industries all the way. That way you know you'll never(if you run an XT bb) have bearing issues. The less trouble she has, the more she rides. But I need them cranks black! White Industries claims to not offer that anymore..... czardonic 04-26-2005, 06:45 PM Because they aren't black, that's a priority..at least for now...Then what about Hone? Not light light, but I believe the weight is comparable to LX and they are black. . . jl 04-26-2005, 07:08 PM But I need them cranks black! White Industries claims to not offer that anymore..... Padre, Your poll is now invalid--obviously you need a which set of black-cranks should I get. Here's a very economical option. http://aebike.com/site/page.cfm?PageID=30&SKU=CR7364 $60 and black... terminaut 04-26-2005, 07:10 PM Coda Tarantulas... Light weight. Black annodized. CNC'ed goodness. Singlespeed. Shimano-splined. Compact pattern. Look for 'em. <img src="http://www.fooriders.com/images/bikes/misc/tarantulas.jpg"> the_eleven 04-26-2005, 07:14 PM Another vote for the Raceface Deus. Black is beautiful. Here's a very economical option. http://aebike.com/site/page.cfm?PageID=30&SKU=CR7364 $60 and black... Man! That detail is in the poll question! I wonder if anyone actually read the question, and instead just skipped to the options.... AteMrYeats 04-26-2005, 07:41 PM Coda Tarantulas... Light weight. Black annodized. CNC'ed goodness. I never really cared for them before but I kind of like the idea of a CODA with shimano splines now. I guess it's just the nostalgia factor. I'd ride em! What length? jl 04-26-2005, 07:59 PM Dude! I read the question and half of your answers are NOT black. So then is it a 'must' or not. In my business, if you provide other alternatives, it becomes 'want'. So I guess all cranks are now an option :D... These are cool... http://www.crankbrothers.com/cobalt_sl.php capn cowbell 04-26-2005, 08:02 PM check it... whatever 1x1girl likes. Personally I like my Race Face turbines ~martini~ 04-26-2005, 08:24 PM pah! Its only fashion. What's that matter when we're talking bikes? And the XT's you used for the last option are only available in silver. If you go that way, may as well go polished. Much prettier. I've seen black hubs from WI. Wonder why they won't do cranks? Send it off to Brett at Phil, I'm sure he could have something done for you. They just did a run a sweet navy blue hubs. Padre 04-26-2005, 09:32 PM Dude! White Industries has made black before...in fact the Path has a set in black in stock..but they're 180mm...doh! RF Duece cranks come in black... held 'em today.... Old XTR's are at least kinda charcoal which in low light could potenially be considered black.... newayz..those cobalts are so pretty...i just might reconsider...are they even available? Super E 04-26-2005, 10:01 PM FSA....I don't need to say anymore...get yourself a towel to drool on then go check them out here: http://www.fullspeedahead.com/fly.aspx?layout=product&taxid=52&pid=196 Oh my.... Mattman 04-26-2005, 11:36 PM They are billed as XC or DH really beefy, pretty and black, maybe a bit too heavy? Uses octalink BB. I have a brand new set with chainring and bash gaurd I can make you a sweet deal on them. They are not on the Vulture, only because they are 175mm. PM me if you are interested. Otherwise, I think you may want to check out a set of the new stylo SS with the outboard bearings. I know that you know you can never go wrong with XT, except they are not black. jl 04-27-2005, 03:25 AM Padre, Come on... new XT is not black, and XTR is not black (as you said close, but still not black)--by definition half your choices are not black. Anyway, tomato, tomato, these are also black... Lightish is up for interpretation... http://www.beyondbikes.com/bb/Items.asp?Cc=CM%2DCRA%2DBLO wooglin 04-27-2005, 05:19 AM Function over form. Its a race bike, not a fashion statement. I voted XT. brewdog 04-27-2005, 06:55 AM I voted RF...didn't have FSA as an option. One thing to consider - would ano'ing the WI void the warranty? She'd most likely never need it, but it's piece of mind knowing they're covered. Padre 04-27-2005, 10:35 AM Function over form. Its a race bike, not a fashion statement. I voted XT. Gosh...can't it be both? Padre 04-27-2005, 10:36 AM I voted RF...didn't have FSA as an option. One thing to consider - would ano'ing the WI void the warranty? She'd most likely never need it, but it's piece of mind knowing they're covered. I like the FSA's but it seems they are hard to get parts for....i'll investigate... JL... perhaps I should have said "dark" cranks.... :D wooglin 04-27-2005, 10:58 AM Gosh...can't it be both? Judging from this thread, apparently not. Nothing for it but to start over with a silver/chrome theme. Black is passe anyhow. ;) donkekus 04-27-2005, 11:01 AM http://www.mtbr.com/spotlight/srammediacamp/images/SramStyloXC.jpg Dont know how to post just the pic....... (anyone?!) Endomaniac 04-27-2005, 11:57 AM check it... If it must be black and light no question some FSA carbon cranks are the way to go. My wife just got some outboard bearing road versions and they are very nice. I went through 3 sets of bearings on my Dues cranks in about a month, the shell was dimensioned, square and faced to perfection every time the shop called race face they sent a new set of bearings out for free with no hassle. Seams like RF would put up a fight if they didn’t know some sort of Issue exist with their equipment. The old XTR’s are ok but seam to have a soft spline area that wears out over time and you either have to use a spiderless system (I tried them both and neither lasted very long) or an aftermarket spider that may or may not fit very well. Aftermarket anno would probably void any warranty otherwise the ENO would be my top choice (Long live square tapers) Personally I hate black cranks because I rub and beat on my cranks so hard the black gets worn off and the cranks look like poo in no time. Silver square taper turbines are my all time favorite MTB cranks. Spookykinkajou 04-27-2005, 12:55 PM How about these? Black and lighter than any crank mentioned at 498gm for bb/arms. Extralite is the brand. DWF 04-27-2005, 01:20 PM Sweetwings. Gold. Cool. Wicked light. Not black. Like these only for MTB: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=56195&item=7149471823&rd=1&ssPageName=WDVW Can't find any? White's and forget the black. Silver is the new black. Black is sooooo 90's... nightfire 04-27-2005, 01:26 PM None of the above. You want light, Black, Singlespeed these are what you want http://www.tonkin.fsbusiness.co.uk/boone1.jpg FSA Carbon arms and custom Boone ring. Padre 04-27-2005, 01:31 PM That looks delicious. None of the above. You want light, Black, Singlespeed these are what you want FSA Carbon arms and custom Boone ring. nightfire 04-27-2005, 01:34 PM It is hard to resist eating them. Were destined for my Uber-light 26" bike but I feel the need to use them on my new 29er with a Rohloff. P::.. |
