I've got the Zinn book and Bicycling's Complete Guide to Maintanance. They both seem pretty good, although most of everything I've learned is by doing it.

...with all that. You're going to need to cobble together a whole host of sources for that info, including Sheldon Brown's site, FAQ's like Mike T.'s, manufactuere's sites and forums such as this. Especially with the rate at which product lines evolve, it'd be tough to put that all in print and 10x as tough to keep it current.

Don’t you think it would be extremely helpful to pin a thread listing all of these links and any others that deal with wrenching to the top of the Tooltime forum?

Don't forget to use Google's "Images" and "Groups" tabs. You will find some very useful and/or unexpected and/or odd stuff.

The Zinn book is very good and has a lot of the same info as the Barrnett's shop manual set but not in as much detail. The barrnett's set is awesome if you are going to get serious about working on bikes. It's available at Colorado Cyclist and some other places.

I've heard lots of good about Zinn's books (both road and mtn). I have some Amazon gift certs, so they'd essentially be free (though that would mean I wouldn't get anything else with the gift certs). But I already have the Bicycling Mag book. Are the Zinns books enough better than the other one that it'd still be worth getting?
