How is the riding in San Antonio? The riding in Tucson is great. We have MOab like riding in Sedona, crazy technical downhill desert trails in tucson, and phoenix, and alpine downhill ski resort riding in the white mountains, and amazing XC alpine riding in Flagstaff. Where are the best trails. I like downhill, freeride, epic XC. I'll be happy if the trail is long and technical. I don't like smooth sidewalk trails. How are the trails when it rains? Are they still ridable?

Thanks!

Obviously moving from Tucson which has great trails to San Antonio will be a change in scenery and trails as well. San Antonio does not have mountains but does have great trails. You will have many other cities close by (Austin Dallas) that also have great trails. There are also many private ranches that charge by the day that have a great trail system. Check out www.storm-web.org for more info on local San Antonio trails.

I moved to SA recently. Not as cool as AZ i guess, but a very tight-knit cycling community. Over one hundred riders have been know to show up on a Thursday night just to ride downtown and drink beer. You can also afford to live in the inner city, which is cool.

I've ridden Hill Country State Natural Area and thought it was fun. It looks like Kelley Creek, Flat Rock Ranch, O.P. are the most popular, How are the Austin Trails? Any kind of downhill/freeride scene in SA? Thanks.

There is a small, but growing, urban freeride scene here and a new shop just opened up to give the support to it that the XC shops don't. Flat Rock Ranch, in Comfort, has three downhill runs of which two a pretty hairy and technical. Flat Rock also has 24 miles of sweet, mostly singletrack.
Austin has better, more abundant trails and is 1.5 hours away by car.

Don't forget about Warda and Smithville to the east. We have a bunch of great 8 to 12 mile loops and a handful of 20 or so mile loops ...All within 1.5 hours and mostly much less.

I like Comfort which is less than an hour away. I have a primordal urge to do the big loops and the have the "Monster". Good camping. I like Hill Country Natr'l area too. In town, it's Macalister just because of the proximity and unspoilded sections.

Also, we have some decent road biking just west of us.
