I plan on visiting the Big Island in May and again in July. I'll be staying at KMC and was wondering what there is in the area. Nothing too bad because I'm bringing someone with not much experience on both trips.
Thanks for the tips.

I posted a trip report on the passion forum yesterday; I just returned. Kunia Forest has fire roads and single track for all abilities----there is some good fire road in the park as well. Also the main loop road in the park--crater road is a good 12 mile paved jaunt that can be done in 45 or 50 min.
KMC was sold out when I went so i stayed in Hilo. Check out some of the rest of the Island too. And look at the BIMBA web site---just google search for the address.

BTW, jt I live in Miliani--work on schofield. I usually ride road with the Hawaii Bicycling League Sat AM at 0900 leaving waikiki elementary--outside of that I do a 10 mile road loop a few loops at a time on Schofield. Occasionally get a dirt ride in but the riding isn't all that swift here for XC. you are gunna like the big island a lot better.

Out there KMC you'll be on the east side of the island. For sure give Chris Seymour a call at Hilo Bike Hub. He'll be able to set you up in places to ride as well as any bike stuff you'll need. Additionnally, yes, check out BIMBA. They run all the events out on the Big Island. Great outfit.
Aloha, hope that helps.
