How do ya'll feel about imports? My wife and I are considering relocating. She's a talented violinist, and I'm a shop wrench, and mountain bike bum. Some how we've gotten it in our head Canada would be a better place to live and raise our kids.
Oh wait some one else just asked the same d*mn question. Sorry. :D

Well let's see...
1. Canada has better and cheaper weed
2. Plenty of Sushi in Vancouver for the munchies
3. People are way cooler/nicer
4. Beautiful city and mountains are in the back yard
5. Really cool parks with incredible varieties of plants
6. Whistler (need I say more?)
7. Canadian dollar gaining ground over US dollar.
8. Sweet islands to explore
9. Better fishing
10. Even better fishing
11. Plenty of cute Asian girls (for us bachelors)
12. It's NOT the USA!
13. No terrorist attacks
14. You can count the amount of crime with your fingures = no murders
15. You get to chuckle every time you here people say "AY"
16. Did I mention the weed is great and costs $160 US an ounce
Reasons 17 - 200,000 : No more Bush!

It seems like there is a shortage of bike mechanics here in Vancouver right now. Almost every shop has a sign out looking for people.
There is even a couple of threads about it on NSMB.

As for the requirements to move here, check out this Canadian government site:

Thanks for the info. I go to UBI at the end of the summer, I plan on sending out resumes during the winter. I'm just trying to figure out where. I'd like to go someplace where the riding is great, the people are mellow, and people don't hate so much. BC sounds better than anyplace else I've heard of.

The lower mainland of BC is great, the only problem is the high cost of living. Other areas of BC are cheaper, but then you don't have the population centers to support a lot of bike shops.
Good luck with your move!

Bike mechanics are underpaid here (they probably are in US too).
Lower mainland BC is expensive, but if you go anywhere else you have real winter.
Most people aren't any cooler than Americans, they just think they are.
Green chile is hard to find.
Government health care, you less likely to lbe carefull because they will patch you up for free.
Must follow hockey or be ostrasized and or assaulted (not joking).
Bike parts cost MORE.

Other places with mild winters include other low elevation places like Sunshine Coast, Vancouver Island, etc.
