my cassette does not "freewheel" backwards very easily. is the cassette installed incorrectly, or is the problem with my hub? it's just a shimano 8-speed cassette installed on a chris king mtb hub.

I have the same problem with my King hub. I've overhauled it according to the manual myself, but only had a minimal improvement. The next step was taking it to a shop I think can actually do it properly. I'm hoping that there's grit inside the areas which require the special king tools to get to, so I couldn't clean it but a shop might be able to.

I had the same problem when I was running that combination. I fixed it by placing the really thin washer that comes with some cassettes before putting the cassette rings on the spline. Never had a problem after that.
