The schedule for TM in CT is being put together now. If you want to participate in any of these events (or are qualified to lead events) and want some input into the dates, places, work, etc now is the time to start the process. I usually head up the efforts in Trumbull, and the place needs it so I'm looking for help for this year. Email me at sideoutmtb/gmail or reply here. If you want to help in another area then let me know that too and I can put you in touch with the state coordinator.

FYI, these TM efforts are assembled by CTNEMBA (www.ctnemba.org (http://www.ctnemba.org) Its being redone so be patient as it gets finished). CTNEMBA is recognized by the state as the official organization representing MTBs in CT.

from CTNEMBA:
"We’re now fully entrenched with the CT-Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) as the liaison for all needs Mountain Biking. Their draft “CT-Recreational Trails Plan” addresses our wants for increased trail access and legitimizes us as the stewards for this usage. They also declare us as responsible for “educating renegade” cyclists and highlight our Trail Ambassador and Trail maintenance efforts. This means: We’re on the hook. We’ve told them we do help, want to help more and can be effective in helping. Time to make good."

So if you want to get involved, have a gripe about TM that is done/not done, or just don't know the first thing about TM but want to learn...now is the time to get that process going.

Right now the calendar has a few important dates on it:
May 14/15: IMBA Trail Care Crew will be in Redding. GREAT chance to learn (classroom and hands on) all about TM.

May 22/23: NEMBA Trail Building workshop. Hands on learning time.

Hey Doug, I'm interested.
I'm a total newbie to TM crews and have never ridden Trumbull. Just getting back into mtb'ing after a cycling layoff.
Anyway, if you have more info you can email me.
Thanks.

Thanks, email is on the way.

For others interested, we will probably be finishing up a project we started with IMBA and some other light preseason cleanup. Thrails look pretty good this year (not much deadfall), but one of the bridges is out...and gone. Didn't even see it downstream.

Still very soft and wet in the low spots (and this was before the rain), so let them dry out a bit longer.

doug that would be very smart to put that bridge near the meadow back up. on the 19th i went in there with the gang and it was oviously gone, we had to cross the river... and it was cooollldd. so if we can put that bridge back up ( i got friends who would love to help) that would be much aprecciated :D

I'd love to help out, but thats opening day of fishing season! you'll probably see (no lie) hundreds of people down near the river, especially taft road area. Im goin somewhere else to get my limit. If you have any later dates, or how about an afternoon tm after the clocks change.

www.nemba.org (http://www.nemba.org) (and www.ctnemba.org (http://www.ctnemba.org)) will have the full calendar up soon if not already. My schedule is pretty tight this summer so I only have one event planned. Another guy is planning 2 or 3 Thursday evening TMs. Those will be pretty light duty though. Mostly cleanup and trail definition (lots of social trails sprouting up and LM wants us to get that under control). Opening day of fishing...didn't know that. We'll be on the rt25 side of the park so we should not get in the way.

Jordan, as for putting the bridge back up...thats a HUGE project. If we could find the bridge, good luck getting it back to that spot on land (heavy and too many trees to get tangled in) or in the water (cold and ever try moving something that floats against the current?).

I've got a call into the land manager about that and other stuff. They did get a crew to fix and anchor the other bridge so they have people that can do that stuff.

Hey Doug et al...I've just started riding Trumball again recently. I used to ride it often years back in high school. I'm looking for people to ride with and I'd also be interested in helping out where I can. Let me know and I'll check those links a little later.

Cheers,
Mike

I am going to join CTNEMBA next spring. No time right now, wife is about to deliver our third child and finding time to ride will be hard enough. Definitely, want to give something back to the environment.

I no longer help with this area. Just moved to Texas so the 2100 mile commute is a bit much. Though I do miss the trails.
