I've used them before at my shop but i was wondering how necessary they are for installing a king... thanks You can probably order them directly from CK, but why spend all that money when you don't need to. Go to the hardware store and get yourself the following: 1. 1/2" x 12" bolt that is threaded all the way through. 2. Two large washers 1/2" ID. 3. Two 1/2" nuts (only one necessary if bolt has a hex end on it already). 4. Scrap piece of hardwood at least 1/2" thick. Large enough to drill out two pieces at least 1 1/2" in diameter. Using a hole cutting drill bit, drill out two holes from the wood. The piece that is stuck in the bit is the piece you will be using. Now drill another 1/2" hole in the center of that piece. Now put all the pieces together in this order from the outside in: Nut, washer then wood. You now have your very own universal headset press for a mere six dollars and change. The wood is much softer than any headset/frame materials so will protect them from damage. mtb_biker 02-27-2004, 05:12 PM . thanks for the reply but i already have a park hhp2 headset press.. that sounds like a pretty simple design though... shanedawg 03-16-2004, 02:49 PM thanks for the reply but i already have a park hhp2 headset press.. that sounds like a pretty simple design though... I have them and have used them but with that tool they are not needed. Just don't use the cone shaped step down adapter bushings that come with the park press. Stick to using just the middle shaft and the top and bottom pieces and your tool will only press on the outer edge of the king bearing cups. One other tip I learned to help them go in straight is to do only one cup at a time. That way the tool has one side that is up against a flat surface and the other is pressing in the cup. nwmtb 03-17-2004, 10:36 AM OR : if you want the king press adapter you can buy them direct or I can help you get them. If you are just pressing in 1 1/8 cups..then just purchase the 1 1/8 press adapter which has a SRP of $17... and then you can get the base plate setting tool for $7. later, Chad ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- http://redbarnbicycles.com/ |
