I've some questions conserning the nwe Salsa Dos Niner frame (bike)
- Does anyone of you have one? :confused:
- How much does it weigh? :confused:
- Are there anywhere informations about the geometry? (it's not on the homepage) :confused:
- Did anyone have problems with anything (shock, tire clearance, ..) or does it work good? :confused:

Over the past few months, there have been several Dos Niner threads in this forum. If you do a search, there should be lots of good info available.

Awww man! That almost exactly how I'd want my race bike to be in 22"!
I'm pretty sure the Dos will be at least a pund lighter than my KM, with very similar geometry and then the added cush, hmmmm....
But if I'd get one, ust the graphics would suffice me to justify the purchase.

My LBS South Mountain Cycles in Phoenix has 2 pre production demo's there right now. One will be raced at the 24HR of Old Pueblo this weekend. One thing I noticed is very poor rear tire clearance, but supposedly the production models have corrected that. Also the riders that I talked to that have ridden it say, they really don't notice the rear shock, but again this is a pre-production demo model. I think they have a LG and a SM.

Scandium is light! Initail impression. (3 rides) Rides like hard tail, without harshness, no bob like moots 29, more chainstay tire clearance than moots 29, less seatstay tire clearance than moots 29....Both bikes are nice!! & have completely different rides.

Here are 2 more pictures of rear tire clearance. Tire is New 2.2 bontrager jones. This is the 22 inch version, seat tube measures 24 inches center of bb to top of collar.

It looks liek plenty o'room to me.

Haven't seen the Jones tire for an idea of size. Obviously the tire clears, but that doesn't look like a whole lot of room once you pack on some mud.

Unless you are riding in really sticky clay/mud, you don't have to worry about only having 1/2 a cm clearance. If the mud is that thick and sticky, it's not going to matter how much clearance you have, you'll clog up. Also, the jones ac is a really tall tire, so it definitely will reduce some of the clearance.

yep. Much ado about nothing it seems to me. Besides, if its so muddy out that you're worried about clogging issues, should you even be out on the trails? Hmmm?

Despite what has been written about the prototype frames, this one looks good! The taller top tube on this one makes cyclocross dismounts a breeze at speed, (just hurdle those 3 foot high logs) , & nice big triangle for shouldering the bike too.... . But One thing I did notice, It might need a bigger gear than my hardtails, downhills have never been so nice!

I'll answer the weight question. A 22" is just under 4lbs! That's pretty darn light.

Regarding the other questions, I'm expecting that you'll start to see some more posts on other peoples impressions as we have shipped quite a few in the last week.

Also, my Fisher hardtail was already really nice for it's XL size, around 1700g.

I know if I were building them up, the difference would be more than 2.0lb. Because my Monkey would be (ok, is) equipped with a Thudbuster seatpost that weighs 350-400g more than a decent rigid post. May not be exactly comparable, but half the point of a softtail is to eliminate the need for such devices ... pushing the weight difference (including seatpost factor) to 2.9 pounds. !!

I'm not buying one, I'm just sayin'.

4 pounds in an XL is AMAZING. I remember my old Schwinn homegrowns from around 2001-2002 were about 3.3 or 3.4 in an XL (21"), and that was a ridiculous tin can of a HARDTAIL frame - I broke several of them, and they always ended up with dents in the downtube after what seemed like about 5 minutes of riding.

Somebody throw one of them on a scale, eh? I'm always dubious about these claimed weights, though I certainly have no info that would indicate Salsa's exagerating. Looks like the production frames indeed are improved over the protos!

It's in the otehr thread, a confirmed 3.94lb or 1787g for an XL. My, my... That about the same as my Fisher with disc adapater installed. The Dos comes at the wrong moment for me, I desperately want it now, but I need to get me a four-wheeler or I can't race at all :-(
