I have two bike, a DH/FR bike with a Shiver DC and an urban HT with a Pike. I do "trail riding" every once in awhile, so, since both bikes have King headsets, seems like I could switch the forks out pretty easily. First I would need to buy an 8" disc adapter for the Pike, which I can't find. Other than that, what could go wrong by switching from an 8" DC to a 5.5" SC? I would also switch the travel to 7" in the rear (6" position isn't compatible with Romic)

do it up. might feel funny tho........ if you got slicks, lock both ends out and find your favorite blacktop too. nice thing about mtb is they can trickle down and do anything

just because it's a foes super F1 race machine don't mean it can't be singletracked!

I wouldn't do that. The pike axle to crown isn't as much as other forks in the same catagory, meaning that it simply won't be very tall, and you probably will not be happy with the angles it gives. A marzocchi Z150. Z150SL, 05 Z1 150mm 66 or 170mm 66 would probably be a much better singlecrown choice.

I realize that there are lots of better choices but those forks wouldn't give a really significant weight loss like the pike would, and wouldn't pedal very well. I can fool with the pike so it doesn't bob much, but still takes the hits. Also, I am only considering changing the fork since I already own both forks. The 7" travel setting on the Fly lowers the BB and slackens the HA, so I figured the shorter A-C measurement of the Pike would compensate for the HA slackening, making it close to the original HA with 8" travel and Shiver DC.

You must not have been listening. I said the Z150SL, or 05 Z1, both of which have a huge weight difference as opposed to your shiver DC, these forks are also shorter than the shiver by a good amount, so they'll fulfill your hopes of having a similer head angle, without getting too steep.

You seemed to have made up your mind before we even answered your question, so sorry, but most of us do not think it's a good idea to put the pike on a bike that is designed for 6-8" up front.

I can't listen to text on my computer monitor. An idea popped into my head, and I wanted to post it to see what people think. I already have the Pike in my possession, which is why i wanted to try it out. I don't think it's worth having a spare fork around that I use once in awhile.

If you've already got the Pike, do it. It doesn't matter if everyone else in this forum tells you it'll suck - you might like it. Why not just give it a shot? Nothing to lose, right?
