I heard that there was a coupon in the mtbr.com e-mail newsletter for an IMBA membership. I don't see it in any of my e-mails so I might have deleted it. Anybody have it? Thanks!

not to be a d1ck but being a member of IMBA means you're a trail advocate(among other things), which means you're willing to toss down a little dough (and hopefully some volunteer sweat equity) to help the trails out. Using a coupon to become a member really seems to defeat the purpose. If the 15 bucks is THAT much of an issue, don't become a member. Don't get me wrong though, IMBA and the biking community in general need all the help we can get...please just see fit to pay the full price, and possibly even toss in a few extra bucks if you can afford it.

that's why they do these promotions and mass mailings.

Thanks.

imbkidIII - I'm not sure why I feel the need to explain this but...I've been a member of IMBA Italia for the last 2.5 years and the cycling club I am in has a team membership and I/we have put many volunteer days into building and maintaining trails in my area and other areas we frequent. I saw that IMBA was offering a discount so I figured I would get one for the US since I am headed back there. Why? Because I am tired of receiving the e-mails and stuff in Italian, I want a new t-shirt, and I love free stickers.

Anyway, ASSume what you want. I'll be enjoying $15 worth of beer while sporting my cool new IMBA t-shirt. Will I feel guilty? Nope.

Ciao!

P.S. If you ever take a trip to Italy, be sure to visit the town where the IMBA HQ is located! Finale Ligure has some awesome biking. Also check out Lake Garda (Lago di Garda) and Cortina d'Ampezzo!

I agree with your philosophy, but I believe that these discouts are often subsidized by corporations. It's a good on them (yes, I look at the sponser list) and it gets (hopefully new) members. Now say, if someone joined at the discount rate, but soon after answered the call for IMBA's legal defense fund, was it better that they had not joined at all? Doubtful.

Howdy folks-

Kevin from IMBA here. I'm the membership guy. Just thought I'd chime in real quick. I wanted to let all of you know that we're sincrerely appreciative of ANY support- whether that's at a discounted rate or at the $500 level. Most of our funding comes from individual memebrships, so every dollar counts. Look- we wouldn't offer these discounted memberships if if wasn't worthwhile to us. Would we prefer folks to join at a higher level? Of course. The bottom line- we don't want anyone to feel guilty about donating to IMBA. So- ride your bike, support your local club, and join IMBA. Oh yeah- have fun.

Hope to see you out on the trail.
