Hey there!

I might be attending the Vancouver Film School this summer. I was wondering how far I will have to drive to get to the goods? I'm looking for some of that legendary north shore riding and awesome single track you guys are so lucky to have!

I'm in Washington state, so I know the vancouver area pretty well. I've recorded several albums at Greenhouse Studios in Burnaby. I love it up there. The air seems cleaner, the people are cooler, the greens are better, and apparantly the biking is better too!

Where's the best place to live for good access to the trails? I'm thinking of moving to North Vancouver, nice place. Would that be wise? Also, how long does it take to get to Whislter on the Sea to sky highway? I've been skiiing up there, but don't remember how long it takes from Vancouver.

Not to insult anyone, but why are there so many bad drivers up there? Large asian population have something to do with it?

Cool! I look forward to moving out of this foresaken country (it really sucks down here!) and riding with some of you this summer!

If your priority is school, then I'd live somewhere closer to VFS than North Vancouver. I think it's on Hastings street - so you should look at Gastown, West End, Yaletown. A buddy went to school there and he lived in Kitsalano....but he was busting his butt at school and he didn't have a lot of free time for other activities. With the traffic up there, you'd be glad to live within walking (or riding) distance of the school.

If your priority is biking, then I'd definitely live in North Vancouver....I'd actually live in Deep Cove personally. Whistler is about 90 minutes from Vancouver, but there are amazing trails in Squamish as well and those are usually rideable most of the year. If you don't already own pads, a FF helmet and flat pedals, buy those asap....you'll be glad you did.

FWIW, I'm a fellow Washingtonian and haven't noticed drivers being any worse than they are here.

Cheers,
EB

Bah. I've driven all over the world and Vancouver drivers ARE the worst. Slow, tentative, inattentive, oblivious to what's going on around them. People turn the steering wheel like they aren't sure what will hapen when they do - because they AREN''T sure. Brutal.

Part of it may be the large immigrant population, but Vancouver is an "equal opportunity" kind of place. The God of Horrible Motoring Skills didn't discriminate when he doled out drivers' licences around here.

Rant over.

Enjoy Vancouver.
