View Full Version : No wonder my bike was so heavy stock... DaFireMedic 01-14-2004, 10:30 PM The 12-34 XT Cassette I took off, I finally weighed it (With steel lockring) joeadnan 01-15-2004, 01:33 AM ...isn't a 11-34T XT just 290g or thereabouts? split 01-15-2004, 06:17 AM The 12-34 XT Cassette I took off, I finally weighed it (With steel lockring) Not even a Deore or LX is suppose to be that heavy?! DeeEight 01-15-2004, 09:32 AM Not even a Deore or LX is suppose to be that heavy?! Heck, a Suntour 11-34 is only 360 grams complete with lockring, and it costs like 1//3 the price of an LX. Tbonius 01-15-2004, 10:22 AM That's why I'm going Durace wfl3 01-15-2004, 10:29 AM The 12-34 XT Cassette I took off, I finally weighed it (With steel lockring) All the XT 12-34's I've weighed were high 280's to mid 290's with the steel lockring ThaFurnace 01-15-2004, 02:47 PM My 9spd XT is a verified 290. Are you sure that's an XT? The XT has carriers for the larger rings, all of your rings seem to be stacked without a carrier? http://www.montac.com/mtb/images/cassette_m750_lg.jpg DaFireMedic 01-15-2004, 05:00 PM My mistake, but till sthe darn thing is surprisingly heavy. DeeEight 01-16-2004, 12:39 AM when using the old 13-34 7speed cogsets back in the early 90s? The things were a pound each. 9 cogs with a slighter wider range wasn't going to be any lighter. Chester 01-16-2004, 02:25 PM My mistake, but till sthe darn thing is surprisingly heavy. After I got a basic 03 Stumpjumper HT this summer I began weighing everything to see where I could cut down in the future.... So I take off the cassette which is suppose to be LX and weigh it and ...WOW! While I don't have a digital scale, it comes out at 430 grams.... I grab a older LX cassette and find that one to be about 365 grams and I now see the new ones are about 327 grams...and the XT is about 245 grams (cheap one) So I called Specialized and we go around and around.....and I take out magnifying glass and see it actually is a LX like yours, to be exact....HG 50 LX So, I can't blame Specialized and I can't contact Shimano....but anyway, no one said it was gonna be any specific weight. The good news is for cheap guy like me is that this bike cost me almost nothing...( and I even saw it on sale for others around $850 closeout) I paid way less than that for special reasons.....And it came out the door, only removing the reflectors, and adding on Eggs at under 23 pounds... I'm actually happy that the cassette weighs so much, so I have an easy upgrade to look forward to in the near future. A LX M570 cassette weighs only 327 grams so I will be dropping 100 grams for very little investment ($28). Or an XT at 245 grams at Jenson for only $38 For minor cheap changes ($38) as parts wear out, I will easily be under 22.5 pounds without even trying to be a Weenie. I'm more into being a RReenie......thats a rolling resistance freak. Trevor! 01-16-2004, 03:20 PM The 12-34 XT Cassette I took off, I finally weighed it (With steel lockring) Damm, Thats heavy - Its gotta be something like Deore - I had one similar, it was quickly replaced on my old bike by an XTR I picked up really cheao! :D Bender 01-16-2004, 03:31 PM Im amazed it weighs that much! My 11:28 XT 8 speed is 255g so when I go 9 speed I'll try a 12:27 dura ace for around 180g. Its just a shame the new grip shift style shifters weigh more than my x-rays. |
