So the little lady wants to take a Hawaiian vacation, but she wants to go to Maui and see the lava flow on the big island. We're splitting all the costs so I don't mind spending the money going island hopping, but what's the best way to go about that and not blow all my part upgrade $$$? Is it all commuter flights between the islands?

I'm thinking from Anchorage we would fly into Honolulu, probably spend a few days there, a few in Maui and a few on the big island, or just head straight to Maui for a few days and jump over to the big island for a few more and come back to Honolulu without ever staying there, for the trip home. Is there a better (relatively cheap) way to do this?

I just ordered some King hubs and there are a few parts on the 5-spot I'm going to change, and then since I'll have these spare parts lying around I might as well build up something else, but her plans may clash with that. I need max her in a bikini time along with pimping out the ride.

Can you island guys help a frozen Alaskan brutha out?

I'm here for you fellow homer.

Personally we avoid Honolulu whenever possible when traveling.
One way inter island airfare has been around $100.
Look into flying down to Portland or Seattle then try Hawaiian direct to the outer islands.
Maui to big Island there is a new commuter service that is a bit less expensive and more scenic.

Also recommend avoiding hotels, condos, etc. and going for a vacation rental setup to save some money. Try VRBO.com or mauinews.com classifieds.

Anything you need for Maui, let me know.

wow, big day on the lonely HI forum!

A fellow homer comes through, what was I thinking posting anywhere but the Turner board!?!?!?

The thing about flying into Honolulu is, a local travel agency does a direct weekly charter there and its really cheap. I mean its about 1/2 what the big boys charge because they all require flying to Seattle first. So if I can jump between the islands for ~$100, I'm still ahead.

I'll check into the vacation rental, always good to get the local perspective. I'll be back with more questions in the next few weeks as I try to sort all this out. Thanks.

With Hawaiian Airlines I have been able to book a flight a couple to 1 day in advance for about $180 round trip total, thats from Maui to Honolulu to be exact, I cant see it being any different to the Big Isle. I would try the 'Mokulele', a small charter plane, to the Big Isle. small plane, friendly folk, should get you there less than Hawaiian. 866 260 7070.

Actually, I will be going there in a couple weeks from Maui and will let you know the best deal I can find.

I want some BLING BLING Chris Kings Gold or Mango. trying to work it...

Thanks Shaheeb, let me know what you fiind out. BTW, the King hubs I ordered are the gold ones. So I got the bling coming eventually, but you know how it can go with King sometimes. The plan is for the week after Memorial Day, say from about 6/1-6/10 or something like that.
