On the old board some people were asking nino to sell the brakes pre-tuned, but with $5 worth of bolts you can easily get the weight down to 252. I replaced all the stock bolts with aluminum and the only weird things you need to shave the extra 12 g are ti pad carriers. If anyone knows of a souce, post it here, but I have no idea where to get them. Anyway, this should of been in my other post, but I forgot.

These brakes are awesome. You are right, mine came stock at just over 260 g's. With about $10 in bolts and nuts from Redmist, I have them at about 241 g's, front and rear.
Thanks again Nino.

You can get SRP Titanium T bolts from Cambria. They are $16 for a pair (of bolts). I got mine the other day. Man they are tiny.

A question for DaFireMedic: Are you using your SRP T bolts on stock Vuelta pads or Avid ones? I ask cause my SRP T bolts won't fit into Vuelta pads. Their head is too big for the opening on those pads.

The Vuelta pad holders are surprisingly heavy and lower quality. Use Shimano or Avid pad holders to save 2g. I got mine down to 240g a set including new brake pads. I used Shimano pad holders after finding the Ti bolts would not fit the Vuelta pad holders. The Ti bolts also fit the Avid pad holders.

I still have some sets...
it's really amazing that these brakes never hit the showrooms.they are so simple.the biggest savings comes from the "hidden return spring".the design of the return spring is like on older cantis where there was a small spring just around the canti bosses.no long steel springs that add weight.clean and simple!

best of all they are also more powerful than your regular XTR or Avid Vs.the longer arms make for additional leverage.mine are so strong it's getting to the point where it becomes dangerous - really.I got used to a certain force you need to squeeze on Vs. on these brakes all you need is 1 finger.

by the way - i just got the latest issue of german BIKE magazine where they tested 12 different high-end DISC-brakes.I won't comment once more how many defects they had,how many brakes still fade or how many lost pads completely when hot (Hope!!)...no - i won't go any deeper ;))

interesting that a single change of pads (to Kool-stops) on the XTR makes it 50% more powerful!!! in the wet it's still 25% better than with the standard pads.

I will scan the results later.

I may eventually pick some up, but I won't be getting them from SRP. They chargesd me $13.25 to ship an aluminum lockring, 5 AL chainring bolts and 2 AL crank bolts (18 grams total) in an mainila envelope via UPS ground. Thats ridiculous. Mine may show a little less on the scale because I didn't include the leads and boots as you did.

I just put some kool stop one piece pad/padcarriers, so I'm not using the Vuelta pads on the front.

just get the regular, black ones.
Avid rim wranglers 2 also are great performing pads

the non-black Koolstops are softer/stickier compound and work better wet. As to pad weights in general, Aztec Mag2 threaded pads with Al hardware (its included actually) run 39g/pair, KoolStop Thinline dual-compound pads are 56g (w/steel hardware), Scott-Mathauser Superbrake pads are 50g (with Al hardware but are a physically large pad that lasts a LONG time), and the XT cartridge units off my '96 XT V-brakes were 50g (with steel hardware) per pair. Really, the lightest weight going for pads are things like post-style Aztec Mags (26g/pair) but to use 'em you need a V-brake that works with post-style pads (like Avid TriAlign 3s, 3.0s, Crystal Design Powerbrake 3s and some other aftermarker brand ones).

Why cant you just thread the posts for the Aztec Mags? Any local hardware store should have the die you need. I have everything I need to do it in the basement.

What about these Real pads? http://cambriabike.com/brakes/images/real_design_cnc_brake_pads.jpg They are also canti but could be threaded for Vs. I wonder if the cartridge can take a low profile V pad? Cambria has the Reals on sale, $15 for 5 pair!

Thanks again Nino.

I just ordered a set of the Vuelta's from nino. Can anyone list the
bolts and nuts they've used to tune the brakeset? I'd like to place
my order through Redmist before I actually receive the brakes.

I'll probably also use the levers on another bike. What bolts do I
need to tune those? 2 - M6x15?

Thanks,
baker
