Hello all,

I've got a '93 Specialized Stumpjumper M2FS Comp, 14.5 in. frame with leaky Mag 21's, Magura rim brakes and a Syncros flat bar that I cut way too narrow then slapped on some sweet-ass retro bar ends onto.

I was hoping to upgrade my bike with a new cogset, riser bars, suspension fork and clipless pedals which I estimate would set me back 'round $500 to $600.

The frame is all good but there's some rust in the bolts and on the chain. I'm no John Tomac and I commute a lot during drier days and ride the Delta Water Shed occasionally.

Should I even bother fixing my bike up ? Should I just spring another $600 and join the 21st century with a new bike? If so, can you guys and gals recommend a decent XC bike with good components and where I might aquire my new steed?

If I was you, I would get another bike. There's no sense in investing that amount of money on new components that may not impact the overall feel and performance of the bike.

Like my name sez...I come from an era when bikes were not as sophisticated or expensive as they are now. Of course, I like tricked out Yetis, Ellsworths and StaCruzes, but I don't have the need or desire to shell out more than $3k on a steed.

I'm looking right now at a new GT Zaskar Expert for $1148 and a new K2 Zed 4.0 for $750...haven't made up my mind yet...I'll wait for my next paycheck and an inspiration...Good Luck. HT's rule !!

GT huh? Never been a big fan of the weird top frame aethstetic of them but I'll check it out. If you're in the Vancouver area can you suggest who I might go to to see one?
