On the GTBicycles website, a tech adviser said of the eccentric:

"The Eccentric is like a big headset. First pull off the cranks. Next loosen and extract the bolts that hold the dog bone in place, top and bottom and pull it out. Next undo the locking bolts on the adjustment ring, unscrew the adjustment ring and the whole thing comes apart like a big headset. Reverse the order to re-assemble making sure that the locking ring is tight enough to eliminate play in the eccentric. The main pivot only needs service roughly every other year at the maximum."

My questions:

When I undid the 3 lock bolts on the non-drive side of the eccentric, I was able to spin off the lock ring with just normal finger pressure. (it did not come all the way off, because, in an ongoing series of "one part gets in the way of another by less than 1/32 of an inch, thereby preventing removal" the new hollowtech-3 bb prevented lockring removal. but i digress.) I have a feeling that this is too loose, because I was able to spin it about 1/8th turn more still with finger pressure. So, just how tight is tight enough to remove play? Should I tighten all the way with finger pressure, or should I use a pin spanner and snug it up even more? And how would I detect play in the eccentric anyway?

There was some loc-tite on the screws, is it necessary to re-apply? And if so, what grade?

Thanks in advance for any help.
