JimC. 01-14-2004, 02:04 PM the snow looks great Lee. I think it's more like wet cement now, too mild. thanks for posting, Jim
Wasatch Walt 01-14-2004, 02:37 PM Sigh ... soon I'll get some skiing in. This season.
Kn.
If that is a cornice or the crown face of a previous avalanche? Yikes, good times, the backcountry boarding has been great here in the Wasatch ... but now we need some fresh snow ....

Lee,
Whether you know it or not (am I'm sure you don't) I look forward to this post from you every year. Being stuck, by choice, in San Diego it's rare that I get pictures such as these. The snow jonesing has already begun and I'll be getting mine soon but in the meantime your pictures are awesome.
I think last year you posted something similar and I had one of the pictures up for weeks as my wallpaper.
Thanks!
troy (off to Mammoth next weekend and Fernie in 3 weeks!!!!!)
screampint 01-14-2004, 03:21 PM Say something about making babies....
Nice shot!. We may have snow, but it doesn't look like that!
K'Endo 01-14-2004, 03:23 PM Say something about making babies....
Heh ... that'll cause a heart attack.
Kn.
NO babies!
This wasn't even the real deep snow- just you wait!
We've been biking a bit but really loving skiing more.
Sar - what's up with UT getting dumped and CO missing all the snow
screampint 01-14-2004, 03:30 PM Exactly why I posted it!

Thanks for the kind words. Bring your snorkel for Fernie

Walt,
This was a cornice with varying height. My drop was maybe 10 ft vertical. Sharon's drop was maybe 20 ft. One could probably get as far as 30 ft on it off to the side.
The slope was bombproof. Cold weather stabilized everything. The only concern was south facing slopes which might have been wind-loaded. However, even those slopes had been tracked without any failures discerned.
Stay safe out there. I saw the report on the avvy which took out the 3 boarders in the bc. Ugly stuff
screampint 01-14-2004, 03:57 PM Have you looked at my recent photos? We have snow here.
Have you looked at my recent photos? We have snow here.
I saw the 18rd ones and the ones you posted on Passion. But im talking about your ski resorts. You'll get one foot then Wasatch will get 4 ft! Amazing
CraigH 01-14-2004, 04:35 PM troy (off to Mammoth next weekend and Fernie in 3 weeks!!!!!)
Have a great time in Fernie! That is probably my favourite hill in BC. Red in Rossland is great too.
radair 01-14-2004, 04:51 PM Great shots, Lee! I'm so jealous, as we're really hurting for snow. I've only had a couple powder days, both of which were followed by multiple inches of rain. Love my fat World Piste tele skis!
Keep posting those links - I love seeing you guys playing in paradise!
skogan 01-14-2004, 05:18 PM Okay, maybe not...
Nice looking snow! We haven't had any new snow lately but I have been able to find powder skiing with this old french guy. He is 60 and I only hope to be able to ski half of what he does when I am his age. He has a real nose for finding the goods and has taken me to some pretty interesting places...
Mtbmini 01-14-2004, 06:23 PM I could post cool adventures like you. Oh well, at least it was 68F a couple of weeks ago and we rode in shorts. Keep those adventures coming!

calgarydave 01-14-2004, 09:59 PM Nice pic, near Whistler I'm assuming. We're headed to Nelson in 2 weeks for 5 days at Ymir Yurts and I see it's been dumping there quite nicely for about two weeks. Mmmmmm, freshies in the morning, frosties in the evening.

Still very very interested in Rogers Pass sometime this year and the hut-to-hut in the Parkway.
Dave -we'll be doing a loop through Red - Whitewater - Kicking Horse - Fernie for a week but mostly dhill and following the snow whereever we can in the first week of February. I love the look of the Whitewater bc. That should be fun for you.
airwreck 01-15-2004, 12:46 AM Was hoping to hook up with you guys this winter but it looks like we'll be flying into Portland mid Feb. and doing a few days in Tahoe. Great shot from Baker, I wanted to head up that way, friend just moved to Spokane and has been going there. Never been to Tahoe, so that should be good.
Take care,
Airwreck

Laffy 01-15-2004, 05:17 AM Warren miller TV and then this! You all are killing me with these awesome snow shots. In 3 years Tammy and I are moving away from Georgia and back to the snow. Untill we do I'll have to be put in a straight jacket from Christmas till Easter. Oh my god how I want to go Skiing.
*sigh*
rt - no skiing for me this year :(
give me the lowdown on current conditions at Whistler? I've got a small group of friends headed that way from Ont. next week and they would like me to join them...
I'd rather rely on personal experience than the numbers in the snow report...
Thanks in advance.
mac - there's lots of snow but its been warm lately with rain almost all the way to the peak. Unless the forecast is for colder conditions I'd give it a miss.

Looks pretty steep with those little snow tracks. Guess you went from Mt. Whymper to a scream?

Dr.Faustus 01-15-2004, 10:24 AM Please send some of that white stuff down south! Don't tell me this is some horrible unintended consequence of NAFTA!
The Southern Rockies NEED Snow!

If the fresh snow is crud, I may just do some peak to valley cruising. I have to get my skiing in early this year, just in case work has a labour disruption that puts my life on hold. Ugh!
Great pic. I need the inspiration. Keep those hands forward.
Alan
CraigH 01-15-2004, 12:56 PM Riding Cypress sounds more fun than skiing crud!

AlanB 01-15-2004, 02:35 PM I was young and foolish back then. At least I'm still foolish.
Thanks for the mammaries, but I'm still skiing this weekend.

Remember seeing this single crown fork on Cypress?

Pic by Duncan.
Have a great weekend!
Might have to change riding locations, no one seems to want play on Cypress.
skogan 01-15-2004, 03:08 PM [QUOTE=LeeL]Still very very interested in Rogers Pass sometime this year and the hut-to-hut in the Parkway.
A group of us are heading to Rogers Pass staying at the Asulkan cabin January 30th til February 1st and a few people might be backing out. I know it is short notice but if you are interested I might be able save a bunk for you...
I think we are doing a variation of the Wapta traverse known as the Little Yoho traverse over Valentines day weekend, I may be able to squeeze you into that one too...

Unfortunately the pics from above showing the slope ended up having a camera strap in them
I'll post one anyways...
