does anyone know if you can fit disc brakes on on a 2000 home grown frame

Yes, the older hayes brakes will fit the disk taps if they are mounted to the chainstays. I have also seen a post on the forum once for a company that makes an adapter to mount IS standard disk brakes to the older style mounting holes. Hope that helps.

I mounted Avid Mechanicals to my 2000 4-banger. I bought an adapter direct from a2zcomponents.com it was 20 bucks or so. You need to use a 180mm or larger rotor with the adapter. I used the 185mm that came with my Avids and I had to shim the caliper with some additional washers to get it to work. Now that everything is dialed in, they work great. No problems. The model is the"ad-pmr" parallel mount to international standard mount adapter.
