View Full Version : Colt's Neck/DR from W&OD?
Drewdane 02-23-2004, 11:54 AM Hi All,
I posted this on the MORE site as well, but I thought I'd cover my bases.
I've heard Colt's Neck/Difficult Run intersects the W&OD, but being relatively new to Fairfax County, I haven't been able to figure out where.
If it's true, I could access dirt without driving to a trailhead! Can anybody provide specific instructions on where I can exit the MUT and enter the dirt?
Thanks,
Drew
DmofoT 02-23-2004, 01:59 PM I guess I should field this as I am the Colt's Neck liaison, ha.
You can pick up Colt's Neck behind the Reston Ice Rink. Basically turn off the W&OD onto Michael Farraday Ct., which is about a block away from Whiele Ave. Head to the back of the parking lot and you will see where the trial drops in OR you can jump directly on the trail at the end of Michael Farraday Ct. by just going straight on a little dirt singletrack trail that starts to go up before you would turn into the Reston Ice Rink parking lots.
Are those directions clear?
You can also make Colt's Neck into a nice loop by picking up a short section of the paved Fairfax Cross County Trail, which then has it's own spur of singletrack (nice and twisty with dam crossings), which will pop you back out on the W&OD about half way between Vienna and Reston (it's about a 10 minute fast paced ride back to the Ice Rink). This makes a nice 1:30-2:00 hour loop.

Thanks! A look at a map to pinpoint those streets and I should be able to figure it out, no problem!

We're a group of riders who do everything from trail riding to urban assault in the NoVa/D.C. area.
We the trails are in better condition, I usually lead Wednsday post work rides on the sections of trail you are asking about. I'd be more than happy to show you several loops through that area.
The section of trail from Michael Farraday Drive to Lake Fairfax park is pretty much a mud fest right now, so I wouldn't advise riding it till it dries out a bit.

Hey, is this Cory? If so, good riding with you the other week. I'll definitely try and make it out for some of your other rides. I tried to sign up for your bikelist, but for some reason it won't let me.

Yup - ditto.
Gill-Again 03-10-2004, 09:35 AM Nope, I'm not Corey, but he's a bud of mine. I think he goes by the screen name of RidelikeJeHu or something to that effect.Corey often joins us for the Wednesday evening rides.
I'll pass along the issues you guys are having with trying to sign up for BikeFolk.
I'm Gill (thus the Gill-Again screen name).
