Hi.....
I'm going to be stationed in Valdosta for the better part of Apr/May/Jun for some training. I only saw one trail in the review section for that area. Since I don't much about the region I was hoping someone here could point me in the right direction. About 2 hrs max travel time one-way.
Thanks!

I don't know about S. Ga, but I do know about N. Florida. You could drive down here to ride trails like Razorback and Santos, or San Felasco in Gainesville. I would guess it to be about a 2 hour drive from Valdosta to Razorback, one way. San Felasco is about 20 or 30 minutes closer to you than Razorback but is no comparison. Santos is also really nice but might be pushing your travel limits. I think there are some descent trails in White Springs FL, but I've never been to those. They would be alot closer than any of the others I named, probably like an hour or hour and a half. I don't think they are nearly as technical or challenging, aka fun, as the others.

Tallahassee has some great trails! It's where I started mtn biking. Check in at any of the shops... I think Joe's is still there at Lake Ella, talk to Chris. And, I can't think of any place better to grab a post ride brew than somewhere on the FSU campus.

I'm pretty sure that Macon is within your 2 hour ride limit. We have the Thomson factory trails here, East Macon Park, Georgia Children's Home and Dauset Trails. All are reviewed elsewhere on this site. Dauset is a good 30-40 minute drive north for us here, but is definitely the kind of place you would find worth your while on a get on the road at 6 am Saturday. The rumor mill is that where will be something like 30 miles of trail there by the summer. Thomson is the southern most trail in our area, being just barely north of the town of Warner Robins. It's shortish for a long drive to get there, but it's a really good time. Another all weekend quest type (from Valdosta) trail for you would be Camp Thunder near Thomaston, GA. It's a good place to get climbs in the style of north GA without having to make the drive.

Although it's kinda lame, there are the St john's trail -- some twisty singletrack, couple of little dips. Nothing too special and VERY short, but it's right in the middle of town. Better directions available in the trail reviews, but if you park at the church and take a left coming out of the parking lot, you'll find the trail head roughly 50 yards on your left hand side.
There might be some new trails there by now I'm in S.C now alot more trails plus I'm next to Tn & NC so I cant go wrong here but that was all the help I could give you guys sorry.

There doesn't seem to be many trails around Valdosta, but it has been fun trying to make the best of what there is. The St Johns trail is nice to mess around on in the afternoon/evening and practice some riding techniques. Had some good rides at Grassy Pond and Grand Bay WMA. I've also been able to make it down to the San Felasco and Razorback trails a few times. That is just about what I was looking for, just wish they were a bit closer with the high gas prices and all.
Thanks again!
