Are the Rocky's in the XC category like the Carve, Fanatik, Spice the same tubing as say an Element or an Instinct for model years 2002/2003?
Just curious as I'm scanning the classifieds and ebay for RM XC framesets.
Thanks for any info you can provide.

I think so, back then those bikes were like the Element 30s and 50s of today.
Got a chance to look at it with the other Rockys at the store. According to what I could tell, what the company info said the only frame that was different was the Team Element TSC model, all the rest had the same pipes.
Just watch the rear triangle. Some of the older frames don't always have V-Brake mounts on there. No biggie if you are going disc anyway, but...

I'd be running Avid Mechanical discs methinks! Shocks might be different on the different models I suspect - doesn't the Fanatik run a Vanilla coil over vs. floats on the other models?

Got a '03 Fanatik. It came with a SID XC rear shock (which I promptly took off and sold). Put a Cane Creek on in instead. :) Watch E-Bay for other shocks. These bikes take the standard 6.5 Eye to Eye X 1.5 stroke shocks.
The Element designed bikes have come with Coil overs in the past, but I thought it was a few years ago.
Just watch the Discs in the rear on some of the 2002 and 2003 bikes, the clearance for a rear disc is tight. It works, but it is tight. If you are light or doing XC only you can get away with a 140mm disc to get some extra clearance. (I'm doing that now.)
Good luck,

PS...
Just checked the Rocky site under the 2003 archive info.
2003 Bikes are all listed with "Easton Ultralite FS Taperwall Aluminum". Can only speak that mine has the Easton stamp and makes for a decenlty light and nice bike. :)
I believe that Carves and Fanatiks of the 03 vintage were Easton Elite tubing while the Element and Instinct were Easton Ultralite, saving a whopping .1 lbs.
