morning,

just thought i would share a picture of my good buddies 84 Moots Mountaineer that he's had for quite some time. Some of the cool little bits that i like about this bike are the fact that it uses the Moots Mounts for the cantis so you can run 26" or 700c wheels, and that it has braze-ons for the Moots Portage pad. plus it also has braze-ons on the fork legs so you can have 4 bottle mounts total on the rig.

oh yeah, the best part is that he paid $150 for the whole thing at a garage sale 4 years ago. dang ebay. i think this bike might be hanging in the shop after christmas as he keeps dropping off all his older rigs for me to display like his 93 Phoenix and his Ritchey Commando that has WTB rollercams. Should all go well with the Swift that Jeff from FFB helped me get.

welp, just thought i'd share this bike as you don't see too many, actually another kid here in town has the same thing but dinky and in yellow that he won off ebay last year.

all for now,

nate

Very cool Nate. Ive always liked those old Moots. You just dont see too many around. They made some cool "back-country" bikes if you will. I remember those old wood bar ends they made. Neat stuff.

Hey about that Swift. Im glad you got that. I was thinking about getting that as well but it was quite large. Glad you got it. I should have asked you about it when I decided not to get it. Kind of a funny story how I found that. I guess he contaced Jeff trying to figure out its value and now it made its way to Neb. Cool. Send some pics when you get a chance. PM me with what you finally got it for if you want. Just curious as to what he finally let it go for.

Hows the Potts 29er coming? I havent talked to Steve in a while.

Anyone have a close up photo of those brake mounts?
Wonder if you had enough clearance if you could make a frame that converted from 26 to 29. Or would the geometry be too messed up?

If you did both wheels, it would only affect the trail. Which I guess some say is pretty critical but I dont think it would be too much of a difference to make it bad.

I dont think it would fit 29ers, but maybe, its got long stays.

I'm not thinking in terms of the mootaineer, but in terms of making a custom frame with moot-like mounts on it for expandability.

Ya, thats a cool idea. I guess disc brakes accomplish the same thing now too. We just need road bikes to go disc and then we can buy a 29er and have 3 bikes in one! Well kinda.

these things will be awesome on a cruiser frame... could do things like add these suckers and some tri-aligns to make cruiser frames such as the newsboy accept canti brakes. Also, the guy was selling what he calls the "first bar ends" with wood caps on them. Another fine addition to a cruiser. Thank you so much. I'll let you know how they work and if they work.
