Thinking of heading there for a few days- anyone ride around there regularly? Found out you have to do a $200 all day initiation course before you can use the lifts & DH courses, not really into that! But are there plenty of XC rides from & around the village? Trail maps? Any info appreciated...

Not that much xc riding in/around Thredbo itself...'bout "a ridesworth" unless you really really like climbing...in which case you won't need the lifts. There's a buttload of (fireroad) riding in KNP though.

IIRC, the course runs for half a day (one session) but the ticket runs the full day. Is it really that much?? If so it's gone up heaps!

Checked - the initiation is only $99 if you've got your own bike/fullface/armour. Then the daily rate is lower once you're rated.

If you've got a few days and a bit of experience, head back country to a hut (or take a tent). As mentioned, there is heaps of fire trail, and lots od climbing to be done. We did a trip up from Guthega power station in late feb this year. One of the best trips ever. There's also good riding through the cascades etc. Get some good topos and check it out.

RawNRG gave us a lot of attitude when they realised we were having fun, but not paying them hundreds of dollars.
