Thanks for posting those Matt. Good looking shots. I right clicked and saved the one of me if that's ok. I'm amazed at the diversity of flora in that shot, not to mention eco sytems with Charleston in the back ground. Very cool. Thanks for letting me tag along.

Is this the Cowboy trails trailhead?

I went by there Fri and Sat, but I wasn't too sure. There's some signage on the gate posts indicating that it's some kind of fee area?

Both days I took short rides over behind Blue Diamond. I was pleasantly surprised by those trails. I rode out from the Bike Outpost to the parking lot and back, then up The Hurl and that was just what I was looking for.

Yep, just follow the trail to the right. It goes through a little wash and then cuts up the hills to to left. Then enjoy! Many routes to explore. I'm working on GPSing the trails but I'm not done yet.

Care if I tag along with your group, I haven't ridden the Cowboy Trail yet? I promise not to slow you guys down. By the way, nice pics by all of you over in Passion of all the local trails. I'm sure I've seen you guys at Bootleg.

Also, are you guys doing any night rides here? I haven't done a night ride since I lived in Phoenix over 5 years ago. My other riding buddies here don't have lights.

How is the Cowboy Trail in terms of difficulty? Cottonwood is a lot of fun for a newbie like myself, but at some point I'd like to try other trails in the area too. Is the Cowboy Trail newbie friendly, or should I stick with easier stuff for the time being?

Your questions. Of course you can "tag" along. thats why i posted. The more the merrier.
Mahling, the cowboy trails are way steeper than cottonwood. The ride to the overlook is about 2 mile up. And a good cardio workout. A few techy sections.I don't wanna turn you off though. If your looking for something new and challenging give it a shot! If you wanna come out saturday and atleast do the first climb. I can show you a shorter "bail-out" route.
I'll start a new thread though for saturday.

I do dark riding some because of the hours I can ride when I'm down... Evening or early (read pre-dawn) mornings.

I'll probably do a loop at Cottonwood/Blue Diamond Friday night Dec 17th if you (or anyone else) wants to join me. Then I'm doing a loop at Bootleg Saturday morning early (6:00am).

I'd be up for the Friday evening ride on the 17th, post a new thread or PM me a couple days before. What time would you go?

Eric - Thanks for the tour. I can't believe I've been missing out on the Cowboy Trails all this time. Next time, I'll bring my other set of lungs.

Mattbikeboy - I'd even be up for a night ride this week. I recently had my batteries rebuilt and need to test them.

How about posting a trail review? UncleMTB and I will probably be in town to ride Feb. 4-5. It would be nice to know more about this trail. Length, difficulty, amount of climbing, map, etc.

I'm surprised no one had posted this trail yet..... So I did.

I've got to check my schedule, but I think I'll be there that weekend if you're interested in hooking up for an evening or early morning ride.

Because of knee problems I'm not supposed to ride more than once per week. But since we are driving all that way I would like to try a not too hilly ride on the first day and Boot Leg Canyon the second day. Sounds like Cowboy Trails might not be a good idea for the first day ride? We''ll check back with you as the day draws near. I would like to make sure UncleMTB has someone to ride with the second day should my knees not be ready.

Sounds like Blue Diamond area would be just the ticket for your knees. Park at the Late Night trail head 17 miles west of the Blue Diamond exit off I-15. Stay on the North side of the highway and you'll find plenty of fun, smooth, rolling desert single track..... all down hill.... well maybe I exaggerate a bit... but as long as you stay off The Hurl, all the climbing is pretty gradual.
