Does that missing 5mm mess up the balance? The black Super has been a great fork in the 100mm travel position, but i have heard it gets a bit wimpy when extended to 120mm. Do I relly need a Vanilla 125, or Sherman Firefly? Jim

I started my ID with a Fox Talus 125, and found that I almost never shortened the travel because the bike felt too weird that way (I have the Romic in back, about 150mm of travel). Then, I put on an 03' Sherman with 130mm of travel and it felt great. When climbing steeps I switched it to 110mm, but other than that I always kept in on 130mm. Now I have an 04' Sheman with SPV and it is by far the best of the bunch (I'm an SPV believer)-- I can even hammer out of the saddle with this fork, without giving up any suspension performance.
I believe you will find the 30mm stanchions on your Black, as well as the shorter travel, just won't fit the ID very well. The bike may not seem quite right, the fork won't be stiff enough, and you will have too much weight over the front of the bike. I wouldn't mind being wrong, though, especially if it saved you some cash.
Put another way, the 04' Sherman is clearly the fork that belongs on my ID. I won't be replacing it in the foreseeable future.
Good luck.
