I'l be working in Richardson for a week sometime in December...possably January. I'm wondering if there's a local shop that I can rent a decent bike from so I can sample some of the local dirt. It'd also be good to hook up with some of you local folks for a ride and maybe a beer afterwards  .

Several shops can hook you up. I live on the FW side of town, but Richardson Bike Mart, Wheels N Motion, Plano Cycling and Fitness are all solid N Dallas shops. If you want to swing over closer to the airport look up Mad Duck Adventure Sports in Grapevine. That is my shop of choice and those are some super solid cats.

If its rides you want, check out www.dorba.org for the local scene. We have a forum where you can hook up with rides and a trail page with all the local skinny. I'm on there and you are more than welcome to ride with us. Weekdays are night rides, so bring yer lights.

Since it has been raining most of the Fall and more recently the past few days I doubt you will find a trail to ride. The ground is totally saturated from all the rain and the weather doesn't really get warm enough to dry it out.

Roadies should be fine though.

Bah, you just need to know which ones to ride. Some trails dry much, much faster than others. Horseshoe and Northshore only take a few days to dry out. Even in the winter. Tyler State Park is usually good very quickly. Good soil out there.

Erwin usually dries quickly too but it hasn't been that great in a while. Even the trails in Grapevine you mentioned look muddy at this point. We will see in a few days.... Tyler is not that close to the metroplex. Its about a 2 hour drive from Mckinney.

I'll be watching for the trails in Grapevine and see how they fair. Mostly I ride Erwin because its fun and its convenient. Lately though its been just too dang muddy and for some reason has attracted a lot of noobs that ride the wrong direction and don't wear helmets...

I live about ten minutes from the trailhead at horseshoe and fifteen from northshore. With the amount of rain we've had in the last few days, I would say that it will probably be ready by Sunday or Monday barring any more rain. The wind helps to dry it out. I've only ridden Erwin once because its such a haul from this side of town during the week. But I remember the soil composition out there being a bit different than the two GV trails which means it takes a bit more to dry. By Sunday, you will probably have a bit of running water in the creek crossings, but the main trail should be great in my part of town!

A side note on Tyler, if you haven't gotten out there to ride, do it. Its well worth your drive. Especially if other things are wet!

Thanks for the info. I was thinking that this weekend would be a bust but maybe there is hope in GV. I'll check the Dorba site for trail conditions and may plan a ride on Sunday.

I plan to do Tyler as well as BarH in the future. It will wind up being a family outing...

We've got some rain falling right now. Sunday may be a bit optimistic depending upon what happens this morning.
