Who has seen the movie Friday Night Lights?

It is a great football movie. Maybe the two best, this one and Remember the Titans (which I haven't seen).

But what is also intriguing, is it show the social morays of that foreign country that is texASS, and ESPECIALLY the Group Psycho Ward that is Odessa/Midland.

When you watch this movie, in part you are looking at the sickness of where and why George Bush is George Bush.

Where the strong are worshipped, the weak are dismissed, where false gods are sought, and where any sort of device that can bring glory, is utilized, and where education plays fourth fiddle to everything else.

I recommend it.

I recommend it.God dammit Walt, you go and get a girl all excited to read a thread started by you about something other than your obsessive hate for GW, and this is what I get. Second lesson learned in as many days.

STFU and go see the movie, it is incredible.

You think I'm BSing about Odessa / Midland? You don't know the oil industry, texASS, texas football, and GWB.

I know the oil industry, and texASS, and W. Penna football. The only football meaner, more cruel, and more skill based than texASS football.

Billy Bob is off the scale on this one, that is normal. But the kid who plays the quarterback does an incredible job, way off the scale, a star is born, as does the Boobie character, and Boobie's uncle.

You better hit the theater tonight. It is that good.

... think I'll wait for the DVD meself, though I am excited to see it. Remember the Titans was pretty good.

If a film doesn't have any 'big screen' requirements - nice effects, big scares, etc - I tend to let it come to DVD. And I watch football on a little screen just fine.

Of course, I broke that rule last night and watched 'I Heart Huckabees" ... but that was only because Mrs. Kept had won passes, and usually there's nothing she wants to see at a mainstream theatre ...

Bakersfield High school football is on the same level, Walt. Do you think it has something to do with Kern River Crude?

As W says, can you ever leave your maniacal hatred of George Bush out of things?

there is a relation between areas who had former glory, former wealth, and then subsequent investment in football to regain glory.

You people just don't understand Odessa - Blue Collar, oil field workers, and Midland, next door, where the white collar oil exec and wildcatters lived.

See the movie and then you will start to get it. Bush comes from Midland. The "owners", Odessa was the wrong side of the tracks. It is instrumental in the movie.

I don't know if it's really a football movie, but The Longest Yard is tops, with this one now second. I love the scene with the real Boobie standing next to the kid who plays him. I've heard the cheerleading rivalries from that area were just as tough as the football. Isn't that the area a mother tried to kill her daughters rival?
