Cheers, Dave bike_freak 10-20-2004, 04:53 PM Hope you have a good day, and get loads of bike gear. :D :D Happy trails. Cheers, Dave Hehe... thank you:) I have a Ultimate PRO workstand on it's way(coming by boat), so it will be here next month. Thats from my parents. Also picking my ibke up from the store today, it has had it's forks rebuilt. Then theres the presents that were bought for me ages ago, my aunt got me PI gel lite gloves(yes, the pricey ones...)! All is good. Ordered more bike parts yesterday just for the sake of it(hehe!). Just wish the wheather wasn't so crap:( I would go for a ride. I have the day off school cause it was sport today and it is raining:) It's my bikes birthday aswell! I picked up my bike from the store this day last year(it wsn't really a birthday present, but I just payed for it like 3 days before...). Off to the LBS... Low_Rider 10-20-2004, 05:04 PM Good stuff!! You sound about sorted, you will love the stand. I've been thinking about getting one for ages. Shame about the weather though! It's been great down in Tassie the last couple of weeks. I'm actually able to go for rides without thermals now!! I'm just about to go downtown and find something for my dad's b'day which is tommorrow. Dad and I actually have our birthdays on the same day..... I reckon I was one hell of a present 19 years ago..... :D Cheers, Dave bike_freak 10-20-2004, 08:04 PM Good stuff!! Are you getting anything bike related? Picked up my bike, it seems that either I was got used to such a low performing shock, or that now that they have rebuilt it(new oil and seals) the rebound control does not work. It is now a serious Pogo, even when set to the least rebound. If it stays pogo after a week or 2, I will take it back. It is very scary and jarrying! Other then that, my forks are quite now, and feel really expensive(compared to before..). Low_Rider 10-21-2004, 03:55 PM LOL thanks!! Yeah, I got a few bike related bits and pieces!! :D I got a couple of shoelaces for my poor old shimano shoes (a cunning joke from my parents) and last week I received a box full of lighting goodies from Eric at Nightlightning, which included an Endurenz housing, luxeons, and a few bits and pieces. :D :D Thats a bummer about your fork!! It might be possible that it might take a while for the system to "bleed" itself. I know that with my duke it takes a few cycles for the dampning to come right. If the fork has been apart or upside down it can take a few minutes of "pumping" until it comes right. I'd ride it for a day or two and then ask them whats going on. I'm guesiing by the "pogo" feel that you may of lost your compression dampning too?? Make sure that he put the same wheight oil back in it too. BTW, what fork is it?? It's a 2004 Duke XC u-turn. Sigh! I just went in, and they see what I mean. Apparently he mechanic(whos in twice a week, hes a 'pro', worked with movies like the Kranked series and helps out certain pros at races.). Well I have ot see him, as he is the one who knows all about it. Hmmm... any reason why you would go and put a lighter oil when the older weight was perfect?!?!?! It's enoying cause it means less time on the bike:( Low_Rider 10-23-2004, 06:37 PM Ahhh I know the Dukes well. Is it making a "squooshy" sound when you cycle the fork?? I'm guessing it's either the wrong wheight oil, or he hasn't filled it up enough. They're pretty touchy with oil heights. The problem with fork oil is that the true wheight varies between brands. A 5w in one brand can be the same as a 3w in another. Take it back and get them to drain it and refill. Cheers, Dave. bike_freak 10-23-2004, 11:22 PM Ahhh I know the Dukes well. No thats the problem.. it isn't making the squooshy sound like it used to! LOL! Yes, taking it back... I put it through it's passes today, and no improvment in rebound. Sigh! Low_Rider 10-24-2004, 02:51 PM Hmmm that narrows things down a bit. I reckon he's either missed an O-ring off in the dampning side, or has just plain forgotten to fill it up with oil........ Is it feeling as plushas it normally does, or is it a bit tight/stictiony?? Yeah taking it back is a wise idea I think.......... :D Cheers, Dave NoWay Ray 10-24-2004, 06:59 PM Another issue with the dukes when servicing them, you have to bleed air out of them when refilling with fresh oil, it involves putting oil into the rebound adjuster before filling from the top. Have a look at the angry asian website, he has a lot of good info about duke servicing and tuning. Low_Rider 10-25-2004, 02:18 AM Yeah true, but even when not bled like mentioned above, after a few cycles it should work all the air out to the top anyway. Have you got a link to the Angry Asian page?? Cheers, Dave. NoWay Ray 10-25-2004, 05:54 AM The site is at www.angryasian.com Low_Rider 10-25-2004, 04:10 PM Ha! Thanks, I wasn't game to type it straight in and just see what came up!! Now that I've seen it I have been there a while back, it's a lot different now though. I couldn't find anything on the duke though?? Cheers, Dave EDIT: Just made it to the forums...... The SID has an air chamber in the top of each fork leg. Therefore, there is an air piston in the damper leg as well as the non-damper leg, which is why the oil needs to be injected from the bottom. The Duke, however, is single-sided so there is no air piston in between the top of the fork and the damper. Thus, you can just dump in the proper amount of oil from the top, and you also don't need to prime the damper as the leg easily holds the oil volume, even with any trapped air. CulBaire 10-26-2004, 03:57 AM Happy Birthday... How old are you now? I'm getting old myself, 21 next month; as much as I am looking foward to it I am dreading it too- It wont be the same without dad there :( Anyways I may have an answer to your Duke troubles, having owned and done alot of work on verious RockShox forks I kind of know my way around. Anyways, Have you tryed adjusting the rebound via the knob? It sounds like they might have crushed the adjuster (inside) when they put the bolt back in  Easily done, by not winding in the rebound before putting the bolt back in  Failing that, check oil level. When are you coming down? The weather has been great lately, although I haven't done alot of riding since Mont- still working on the fitness though, and trying to lose a few lbs, still trying to drop 1/2 a lbs on the bike too :p SRAM gear should be next week. :D Moots post the week after if I win it :) Shoot us an email with details, when your staying, where you'll be, when your taking a crap etc.... :p Hope your bringing the Giant, as I have a cool ride I'd like to share at the YouYangs- It will test out the skills :) The old guy (ya dad?) from your passion photo's is welcome to come too, if he dont mind providing transport ;) -Cul Low_Rider 10-26-2004, 04:49 PM Cul, I didn't think of that!! I've never had this "luck" of crushing one, I've always remembered so far to set it the right way before installing. :D A bit off topic, but I'm guessing if your going SRAM on your Cove you might have a spare short cage XT rear mech you want to get rid of ?? Let me know if you do. I've been following your project for a fair while now - good stuff :D What SRAM gear are you putting on?? Cheers, Dave bike_freak 10-26-2004, 05:56 PM Happy Birthday... I am unsure about melbourne as turns out I have my school certificate the day I was leaving for the trip. But I will let you know whats happeinnig once I find out:) Your Cove sounds sweet, what Sram gear you going to get? I'm now obseesed withp lainning my future 'dream' bike. Looks like I may just get a RacerX100 with Fx100, Sram gear, Magura martas SL's...... Oh ye... Will be awhile though! It will be quite similiar to trevors truth, but a RX.... and mine will be cooler... LOL! :D Low_Rider 10-26-2004, 08:09 PM LOL - I've been planning a number of "dream bikes" for years...... I figure I'll have to wait until I get out of Uni and start earning some real cash before I can make a start!! MMMMMmmmm goodies!! :D Actually my current bike is pretty close to my original "dream" bike.... but my dream has got bigger since then!! :D Cheers, Dave CulBaire 10-27-2004, 03:09 AM SRAM X.0 is on the shopping list, rear derailleur is enroute from the US, and the shifters are being brought from a guy I know off farkin.net 's forums, if he still has them :) Can't wait to see what all this SRAM hype is, the last stuff I used by SRAM was back in the early days of ESP, also getting a pair of Specialized comp shoes, pedals from Trevor when he sends them ;) and to top it off I am eyeing a Moots post on ebay (leading bidding :p ). Dave (Low-Rider), I have a short cage XT rear mech, for sale. It's got abit of interest but if you were to offer more.... ;) I will send you a PM on here, so keep an eye out. :) Ahhh dream bikes, I am kind of looknig for a budget bike/dualie at the moment.... The Cost is just going up and up and up and up and up etc... though. bike_freak 10-27-2004, 02:43 PM SRAM X.0 is on the shopping list, rear derailleur is enroute from the US, and the shifters are being brought from a guy I know off farkin.net 's forums, if he still has them :) Can't wait to see what all this SRAM hype is, the last stuff I used by SRAM was back in the early days of ESP, also getting a pair of Specialized comp shoes, pedals from Trevor when he sends them ;) and to top it off I am eyeing a Moots post on ebay (leading bidding :p ).
